People telling a person why they support a particular candidate....

I would like to rant about this today. Over the weekend was in Lodo bar watching football, as I'm a big sports fan. After a few hours of sitting at this table with about 12 people thowing back a few, one of my friends who likes to pretend that he likes politics now because for allot of people,( its the in thing to do) starts up a conversation about politics. The person he started this conversation up with is an Iraq war veteran. Myself being the only one at the table who truly follows this stuff and has taken down several conservatives when debating with them, whether it be at the strip club, the bar, or at a peoples houses, tried to stay out of it, because I knew the game that was being played. One of them wanted to start an argument, because well, they like to label people. My label is "MR. POLITICAL"....lol.

So back to this Iraq vet, who I dont really know all that well. He starts ranting about how it doesnt matter who gets in, "we are all fucked".  He must have said that about 10 times, among several other things that well, pretty much indicate that there is no hope for the United States, that its over. He also started talking about Obama and his tax policy.  Finally, after shaking my head at him, somewhat laughing because Im trying real hard to stay out of it, I correct him on how he would benefit under the tax policy and allot of other things he was wrong about.  At one point I said dude, you sound like your just watching fox and spitting their talking points!

I know I'm making this to long, so in an effort ot cut this shorter, at one point he just looked at me with frustration, and this bewildered look on his face because I knew my stuff. How may I say this,..... ummm, after all this debate it finally came down to I'm  supporting this guy because he's black. For those of you who don't understand how offensive it is to have to say things ( to your own peers sometimes) that hey, my first candidate of choice was John Edwards. To have to say things like that because people do not think you have enough common since to make an informed choice. What is sad is when the race was between Hillary and Obama, people on my side of the isle treated me the same way, yes, even those who post on TPM!

It's so tough because hell yes, you take pride in a person of color having a chance to be leader of the free world if you are a person of color! To have to be ashamed of that because people will exploit it, well is just tragic if you ask me. In addition for the white people who vote for Obama because of what he stands for, things that excited you like his steadyness, campaign preparing and executing, kindness, savyness, wit, principles,...ect..ect... To be told you support him so you can feel good about yourself, well you kind of know what Im saying.

Its tough. It hurts. I just wish people would understand how that feels when your that simple minded to make such an accusation!  knowone asks Lieberman or assumes that this Democrat supports McCain because he is white! Hey mainstream media, that would be the equivalant comparison! I know this is on all the talk radio shows, blogs, and such about thats its ridiculous to suggest such a thing so I give all credit.

What I'm trying say how infuriating it is when someone says it to your face and you can't even have debate about politics/policy because in their mind, you just want to vote black and not vote common sense using informed opinion. Everything you say is reduced to that stupid ignorant, strawman thought that the person with the opposing view is starting with. Its wrong, it pains, and comes from both sides of the political spectrum, yet most cases comes from the right, just a little harsher and louder!

Fyi one last thing, in the "hood", allot of people still do not trust Obama, so for those that think everything is about race, check yourself!

Thank you Hillary!!!!

This is intended as a heart felt expression from Sean669. I can anticipate all the "she's been doing that all along" takes and quotes ahead, to that I say, save it, ignore this thread as usual!

I said long ago once Hillary started campaigning, or do things for the party, and not just herself, I would lend my thanks and appreciation.

"JOBS BABY JOBS"

I like it. Think it will resonate, and again, for the first time in about a year, I feel like she's all in, and that makes me happy.  I felt it when she spoke yesterday, where as before, I only felt it in bits in pieces when she spoke.

Thank you Hillary.

New Obama Add, You might as well be George Bush!

McCain is grabbing the news coverage

and its working. I turned on the tv today, all news channels were a blaze with McCain quote: "On the Attack". Cindy McCain mentioned in her lie stump yesterday that Obama never mentions victory in Iraq, while I think most of us know that Petraeus said he would never use those terms and it broke the same day. McCain is out just letting everything fly from his mouth, all the while knowing none of it true, but what he is doing is distracting our sheepish media. In light of Palins husbands ties Alaskin Ind Party and their rhetoric starting to be presented to the public in Trooper Gate ruling today or soon, and the problems from McCain not calling Obama out to his face.Classic republican strategy, and again, this seems to be working. Suskind talked about this, (THEY CREATE THEIR OWN NEWS)I just dont think enough time has passed to show it reflected in the polls.  I hope Im being scary, or I hope the Obama campaign understands whats going on, and his a plan for future days to retaliate.

I really want feedback on this if at all possible

I want to know what the TPM community thinks, or am I overthinking this? http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/10/i-have-a-quick-question-for-mr.php

A plea for what I would like to hear more

Not that I have not been hearing this from my side of the isle, I just dont think that I have been hearing it enough, or as forcefully! The American dream is to own a home. After 911, the President said to go shop(not responsible). Wages have been dropping consistantly for 8 years if not more. Inflation continues to grow. We have stagflation! So if workers/people were encouraged to buy homes by the fed. Told by loan companies to risk buying a home, and then they lost their job, got sick and lost their job, or had mortgages with Balloons they could not afford..all of the above, then why are alot of the pundits conceiding the argument that it was the irresponsible home buyers who messed up? (yes I know Obama did all I asked in the debate last night).....I watched that crapy View show this morning, and that Hannity hack continues to get away with spouting that! Now McCain is the savor with his crap new plan. I can hear it now, see he is the Maverick because his party wont like this proposal....vooooommmiiiittt! Its becomming common knowledge(perception) that it was the buyers and not the state of the economy that led to the housing market. The sensible thing to me is if wages were on an upward pattern, then things would not be as bad as they are. Wages are down, thats the reason things are falling apart. I find it hard to believe that people just want to lose their homes. Sure their were loans being given to risky people, but they have to live somewhere too. It is sad that this argument is being lost, and the finger being pointed at Blacks who are only 15% of the population. At least that is their argument, and it has become the perception. Just a plea for Dems to push back harder on that, thats all.

No Mr .McCain, thank you very much.....LOL

Who couldn't get enough of old Johnny walking into that door...lol.... Just look at the expression on his face. This exchange made the whole debate worth it. I love to see smug, smart ass people step in it...For the next few weeks, if you need a laugh, watch this again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZDSJN7mVPo

I have a quick question for Mr. McCain.

This has been bothering me for a while, and I have not been on TPM for a while, at least not enough to know what has, and has not been asked or followed up on. So if I tread on ground that has already been paved, I offer my sincere apologies.

On April 4th, 2006 McCain gave a speech at the AFL-CIO. He was challenged by a member of the audience that said they would take a Job picking lettuce for $50 an hour. McCain in a stern voice said that Americans could not/would not do a job such as pick lettuce. It's as if they/we are not hard workers, or to elite, or not strong enough to handle it. http://mrsensible.com/?p=37

Then as we all know on Sept 15th, he again pointed out that the American worker is the fundamental of the economy and I quote:
"My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals of America are strong," McCain said this afternoon in Orlando. "No one can match an American worker. Our workers sell more goods to more markets than any other on earth. Our workers have always been the strength of our economy, and they remain the strength of our economy today."
So here is the question, and I wish someone on the campaign trail, or even one of the pundits would point this out, if the American worker is so strong in McCain's eyes and he is so strongly and utterly resistant that they are anything less than that, why is it he thinks that Americans would not pick lettuce, or oranges, or whatever for $50 dollars an hour? Does he think that migrant workers are stronger than the American worker? Im just asking the question and wonder why his own words (audio)  have not been thrown in his face about this. I think if most Americans knew what he said and heard him say these things that totaly contradict themselves, they would be even more convinced that McCain is out of touch.

Obama

Won that debate, and everyone with a brain knows it. Watching the pundits cite all of the polls held directly after it ended shows that the people know this as well.  Points, smoints....blehhhhh,,,,,,. I started to write out all of the times and statements that prove this to be true, you know that Obama won,  but then thought why bother. I look around and see comments like Obama should have done this, or said that, I say thats nonsense!
So the talking point for the MSM will be McCain won on points, and Obama won on something I thought this whole dam thing is about, what did your eyes see? Why does this man have to be like Jesus walking to get any credit. The notion that he has do things 100% correct, or its a failing, or average grade is so annoying to me. People, what did your eyes see and dont talk yourself out of it. We make Chris Rock correct when he jokingly quotes his father indicating that blacks dont win decisions agaisnt white people, that they have to knock them out. I expect more from the liberal people and people in the media who have a brain. For me, once the poll results came in for Obama, I was done with the whole thing. Now, just as in the primary, it appears, or I fear that the MSM is going to tell people what they whitnessed, rather the people tell the media. Somebody got they ass whooped last night, and it wasn't Obama. Your not biased for pointing that out, your just paying attention!

I just have one question.....

Where the F*ck is Hillary and Bill.
Yes, I understand I may be jumping the shark. I know all the pro-Hillary supporters are going to tear me a new one for writting this. The fact still remains that as an independent voter, who see's a very clear distinction between the Democrats and Republicans, of which one Hillary and Bill are, I'm not seeing anything from them(right now), the so called leaders and royalty of the party! There are some who have already foregivin Hillary, and those like me who have not, I get that. There are those that will dismiss this post as another anti-Hillary rant, I get that. There are those who are so elite that they will simply make a smart ass comment and or ignore this question, because lets face it, trepidation in their eyes is the way to go. My response to those is, this isn't for you, so there you have it.
Now, back to what I'm trying to say. The republican liars trot out a woman to steal women voters. They promote this fake change, with a candidate that believes everything that Bush believes. The perfect counter in my eyes, would be a woman who has (at least in the primary) has shown she cares not about the pain, rather she is a show me the baby type of a candidate. She was so tough on her own party's candidate. What does that say about her knowing that the republicans are already warning Joe Biden that if he attacks her to harshly, this will back fire, and she does nothing? What better person to attack than her? To me, Im watching Hill closely. So far the silence is deafning! Maybe they have something up their sleeves and if so, I will blog an apology and give them credit, but if these people are for the American people first, and Democrats second, I WANT AN EFFORT!!!!  Anything less than that, in this voters eyes, will mean that they are simply for themselves!

I whitnessed history....., but almost didnt!

My day started out with text messages from friends, whats up today. I replied, "Im sick". I have this sinus infection and its getting into my teeth, doctor appt: at 2:45 p.m. I was in so much pain. I was a little depressed that I had not been able to get downtown to all the events going on, because well, unemployed right now, not alot of money. Thought it tragic that the people I watch on t.v., blog about, send emails and letters too, drive my friends crazy talking about, would be in my home town and I could  not enjoy the celebration. I was a volunteer for the convention, but of course was never called to help.
So my plans today were to go to the doctor, get some pain meds, and come home, grab some tea, and kick back and watch this historic speech. So as Im sitting on the doctors table thermometor in my mouth my phone goes off. There is a text message from a good friend, "Hey Sean, I got an extra ticket for the convention would you like to come?"Hell yeah, I replied,  startling the Dr.......... So I get to the Rx, pick up my meds, run home get my hat, and head to Mile High Stadium. I parked a block away on a side street, really no hassle at all, but as I walked up federal blvd, I was astonished at how many people. So now I had to find my partner with the tickets. "Meet me at 19th and Federal" he said. I get there, and he is knowhere. Seems as soon as he got there, the police put up tape and forced people to form this line. I had missed two calls from him, and now was frantically trying to call him. Finally he picked up, Sean we have moved we are further down and you cant get here.  This line was huuuuuge. By this time Im freaking out. I walk up to an officer, and say, I had to run to my car, before I did this tape wasn't up and someone has my tix. Yes I lied, but I was desperate. He bent over whispered in my ear, "go back up to Burger King, and come back down that hill". Just as I got to the bottom, the line(s) start moving. I see my friend just in time before he would have been out of sight. I mash through the people, reach him and the line takes off, police yelling this way. I barely made it, just barely. So I get through the winding line and after about an hour, get to the front. To my right, I see this dude walk by that looked familliar. It was Chuck D!....I thought Chuck D is in line with the common folk.....lol....It was such a spectacular evening. I so proud of my City. Im so proud of this Country, Im so proud of the Obama's. I got to whitness history, and for a good portion of the evening, forgot how bad my face and jaw was hurting.....Just wanted to share my experience.....:)

Mr. Kucinich Thank you!!!!!

I missed this last night, and just found it online. How can anyone say this convention is a disapointment.  We can disagree on that and I do. Thank you Mr. Kucinich.

Nas I salute you.....

As a Hip/Hop rap music fan. I just have to post this for those who are open minded and care enough to listen. I'm from the 90's when rappers were not all about the mighty dollar and did care to tell the truth about whats really going on in America.  I don't listen to Rap music as much as I used to just the usual suspects Jay-z, Nas, Kanye, and a few others. Here are the lyrics of the new single by Nas and the link to listen if you are open to it. If not, this is not meant to offend anyone please save any and all negative comments:
I posted the lyrics under another topic and am not flooding the boards with it, sorry for the double post.

They forgot us on the block
Got us in the box
Solitary confinement
How violent are these cops?
They need an early retirement
How many rallies will I watch?
I ain't got it in me to march
I got a semi to spark
The game's in a drought
Public housing, projects
Cooking up in the Pyrex
My set, my click
Either getting money
Or running from homicide trial
That's if they ain't died yet
Trying to be rich
Still I'm pledging allegiance
A predicate felon, a ghetto leader
Lending my poetical genius
To whoever may need it
I bleed this from Queensbridge
Now living with my feet up
Never defeated
So a president's needed
Y'know these colored folks and Negroes
Hate to see one of their own succeeding
America, suprise us
And let a black man guide us

Whats the black pres thinkin on election night
Is it how can I protect my life?
Protect my wife? Protect my rights?
Every other president was nottin' less than white
'Cept Thoman Jefferson and mixed indian blood
and calvin coolers
KKK is like 'what the fuck', loadin' they guns up
Im loadin' mine too, Ready to ride
Cause im ridin with my crew
He dies - we die too
But on a positive side, I think Obama provides
Hope - and challenges minds
Of all races and colours to erase the hate
And try and love one another, so many political snakes
We in need of a break, Im thinkin' I can trust this brotha
But will he keep it way real ?
Every innocent n!gga in jail - gets out on appeal
When he wins - will he really care still?
I feel

Gotta do what we gotta do
We ain't got no governors coming through - to help
Anything we need done, we gotta do for self

We ain't falling for the same traps
Standing on the balconies

McCain got apologies
Ain't nobody hearing that
People need honesty

No more double standards for Barrack Obama!

I woke up today did the usual. Started coffee, got my daughter breakfast. Started a pot of Green Chile that will simmer all day. I sat down at the computer, turned on Russert on the t.v. I hit up the usual sites kos, huffington, TPM.  Watching Harol Ickes act like a child today left me less than optimistic about whats going to happen over the next week, but still I was in a pretty good mood.  I went back to Huffington and found this link and clicked on it.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/31/eating-a-reuben-amidst-a_n_104486.html

After watching the last segment on Obama's Rev problem and thinking back to all the greef he has taken on other people he is supposed to be connected to, I have become (come on everyone, say it with me).....Bitter and Angry!!!  I watched this woman call Obama the "inadequate black male!" Now her accusation of Obama I guess may be defended if you were to look up in the dictionary what inadequate means, all though I think it is safe to say based off several factors (the movement, winning Iowa and other states, character, inclusiveness, new direction or dream of the party's direction, handling of campaign, integrity, fund raising, ect..ect...) that he is anything but inadequate, but still I am angry.  Obama had to fire someone in his campaing for uttering the words she (HRC) is a monster.  He had to denounce and reject Farrakhan. He had to defend connections to Billy Ayers for the Weather Underground crap, and there are several other issues I may note as well as any others may think of.  It is my opinion that Hillary is not being held to the same standards in regards to her ridiculous defense of people in her campaign who have made  un-welcome comments, or have taken hypocritical stances like Mark Penn, or Geraldine Farraro.
Yes, this rant is going to show that I can't stand the media, and yes people will call me jaded because Obama is my candidate. After all I still do not agree that Obama got destroyed in the debates as so many will tell you, or that Hillary Clinton has been a victim of  her gender, or much less a victim in any way. If you believe that HRC supporters, how do you feel that your hero is not tough enough to deal with it, rather she cries foul if she truly believes that. Oh by the way thats a tough leader for you, really presidential.  I mean none of her problems are self inflicted, like Iraq war votes, or managing campaigns, lying about sensless things, changing positions to fit her in an election and not being truthful but I digress.
What Im trying to get at is after watching this clip of this woman who supports Hillary say these awful things, and sum up her rant with  the most unforgiveable threat..."PRESIDENT McCAIN", and in contrast Obama had to walk away from another church this week because this pastor said things that IRONICALLY paint Hillary as everything the pastor said, has become laughable and at the same time makes me bitter and angry. Where are the grown ups in the party? I can say at least the corporate media has an excuse for allowing the double standards, (Greed, and self preservation). I dont understand what the Super Delegates are waiting for if they dont stop this on June 3rd. Truth be told, I haven't truly understood them for about 2 months now.

I really hate to start a post about this, but need help!

I'm unable to remove or update the picture I have here. When I go into profile edit, its blank. When I try to change it to the picture I have resized to fit...I get this error message. There is know other place to get help other than start a blog about it. Any help would be appreciated?
