Labor Day Weekend!!! - Time Based Art Edition
Its a holiday weekend and here in my hometown of little Beirut we are currently enjoying our awesome annual Time Based Art festival. Last night I went to an amazing performance of 10 tiny dances and it inspired me to lighten the cafe up a little with a few time-based art examples that I have come across in the last few months (well videos really).
I know this might not be the standard issue political cafe post, but I like my TPM varied and interesting, and well occasionally even uplifting. It's a cafe after all. So consider this post some of the rotating art on the walls (you know next to the Yoga sign up sheets).
First up, a beautiful rendition of evolution. From the artist's (Owen Gatley and Luke Jinks description:
Next up. The heart- that thing that bedevils us all (even you CT :). As a sometimes builder with a pretty good mastery of google sketch-up I found this video simply stunning. But the love story is the real beauty here. If you only are going to watch one of these videos. Make this the one.
This is a short by filmmaker Bruce Branit known also as the co-creator of 405 (from the youtube description) .
Stunning. No?
Now for a quick bit of fun. Gumby's got nothing on this kid (from So you think you can dance).
Alright. Now I like to play this out with a nice music video. Warning its a little emo, but hey its been that kinda year. This is Imogen Heap's latest video Canvas. Its awesome, and she does amazing things with sound (check her out some time).
Well I warned you it was a little emo. But beautiful imagery. I am so thankful that youtube brought music videos back into my life (you know after MTV became a reality tv network).
Hey great news! The sun just came out, that means bonus video!!!
Yep. I don't know how they do it either. Humans are pretty neat though.
Okay all, have a great labor day!!!!

A short animation loosely based on the scientific recording of life's great species. And how this has given us clues that piece together, for us to discover the secrets of the evolution and diversity of life on Earth.

Okay, lets do something with books now. Why? Um because everybody here loves 'em (except maybe that dude in the top hat,- just jibing you buddy :). This animation was created by fourth Estate, a UK book publisher, to celebrate 25 years

Thanks, saladin. A mental health break, but inspirational, to boot. This Where We Live was pure magic; i wish i could have done that.
Yes, world builder was wonderful. What talent.
Base jumping, not so much...

Well that was diverting, sometimes beautiful and head scratching for the flying fools. Thanks for a pleasant and uplifting change of pace.
(The wiki is not showing up for me either)

It was the ludicrous devolution of the thread in your excellent post that inspired me to post. After getting frothing at the mouth angry I wanted to change my mood. Its a holiday weekend afterall.

Thanks so much for this video, Saladin. Beautiful imagery matched in pacing with music that was somehow just right.
Keep the Sunday videos coming, please. First, sand art; now this. Both make us smile and believe that art will flourish, no matter how poorly funded, because artists MUST work, no matter what.

These were wonderful. Thanks for pointing them our way.
World Builder was amazing...as amazing as the world it was based upon...built by Luigi or Otto or Pierre or Hans or (you get the idea) 400 plus years ago...We can celebrate them Labor Day, too.
I need to visit a chiropractor after the dance video. I think that guy has no bones at all...quite the Adams Apple, though.
And as far as the flying Norskes, My first thought was I wanted to see how they landed. My second thought was no, I don't want to see how they landed.
Thanks again and Happy Labor Day.
