Politico44 irony
If you check the front page of politico44 right now, the leading piece is entitled "Obama's paparazzi presidency", and the story immediately following it is a very paparazzi-esque breakdown of Obama's enjoyment of golf. I just found this little irony slightly amusing, and a good in-a-nutshell snapshot of what I don't like about Politico.
Here's a screen cap in case the stories change by the time you check.

"Mark McKinnon, former communications strategist to McCain and President George W. Bush, says Obama is enjoying the benefits of being “a celebritician or a polebrity.”
"So, he's getting different treatment and coverage, and his team understands that and is adjusting the dials accordingly,” McKinnon says. “I suspect this is a phenomenon that will continue and is going to drive the mainstream media and Republicans batty."
Celibritician sounds like w, does it not?
This was the argument foisted on an MSNBC standin on cable the other day.
Reps are so damn made about celebrity. It is like when Fox decided they would have their own comedy show. It was not funny. And it is damn hard for Americans to worship republicans anymore.

ABC’s Jake Tapper predicted this week that Barack Obama will be "the Britney Spears of 2009."
Considering that Obama was deemed by some to be the Britney Spears of 2008, it wasn’t much of a leap.
All I had to read was that to realize I would always dislike Politcrap.

I'm not sure what your problem is. It's a bit of light coverage over the holidays, just as there were golf stories about Clinton and Bush. Obama has a good bit of name recognition overseas as well, and there will be lots of stories just to cash in on his trendiness. That most likely will help him. Is this a surprise, or a problem for Politico to point out?
