DC Passes Gay Marriage
Yesterday was a good day. The bill passed the council 12-1, with the only holdout being Marion Barry, who claimed he was merely representing his constituents, and that the legislation would create a civil war. The council decision drastically upset many black ministers, who had to be forcibly removed from the hearing room.
What's even more interesting is that Congress has the final say-so. I expect to hear the sounds of heads exploding from the South Carolinian delegation. This is a big test for both the democratic leadership and the republicans. If they can't beat this, they will have lost the perception of power, which in this bizarre village is sometimes all that matters.
