Joe Goes Fishing
"I don't want anything to happen to him while my mother's alive"--Godfather II.
The way I read this, there's no demand that Joe keep his chairmanship, only an expressed desire that he stay in the caucus. So there will be no vote to kick him out. But that does NOT mean, in the world of nuance, that the Dem's hands are tied in terms of stripping his chairmanship, moving his office to the fedex field end zone, et cetera.
There's a big difference between kicking him out, which would make the president look vindictive, and making it uncomfortable for him to stay (a matter on which the linked post is conspicuously silent).
