The Accidental Comic

I laughed out loud at this blurb, written in response to this op-ed:
You do not understand how people (including myself) are drawn to Sarah Palin. Joe Biden did great last night because he lied at every turn. He is a talented truth destroyer. Take the Biden lies out of the debate and Palin was the obvious victor. Just like “The Macarena”, Sarah Palin will be involved in our culture for many years. And, in case you have not noticed Mr. Noon, many people rush to the dance floor when that annoying song comes on.

Now, I'm creeping up on 40 and am pretty much relegated to being a "wedding dancer" at this point, but seriously--where does this happen?

Bad Signs for Sarah

Scared to Death

I was hoping for a NASCAR-style wreck last night, and didn't get it.  But watching the debate I couldn't help but think that Palin really didn't know what the hell she was talking about beyond the stack of index cards on the podium.  Had there been follow-up questions, SNL would have written itself this weekend.
I don't know who spread the meme that this woman is smart.  I suspect the McCain campaign did.  That is, simply, nonsense.  (See answer to nuclear questions).
The thought that that woman could potentially (indeed, very well may) have the finger on the button scared me to death, because there are already millions of people who buy her bullshit.  Were she to come to power, she would be Bush without the MBA or Ivy League education, completely incapable of making informed judgments.  "Joe Six Pack's" been in the White House for eight years, and the hangover's barely started.  This is not an election, it's an IQ test.  Many people will fail, but hopefully less than last time.
That's the last that we're going to see of Sarah away from her handlers.  There will be no press conferences.  There will be no follow-ups.  There will be no unscripted moments.
The only thing that gives me hope in all this is that if she loses, there will be hell to pay in Alaska.  McCain's not exactly the kind of guy that's going to stick around to bail out his good friend, and once she has no power the conservative law firms will simply go away.   That's going to leave her alone, with no friends in the Republican legislature, and a few of the majority party ready to call for her head.  There's not only smoke there, there's fire.

And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'." --Barack Hussein Obama
