What Are Your Sources For News About The Black Community?

Today being Juneteenth, I reflected for a bit on how one says informed about events and stories impacting the African-American community. I realize that given the fact that Barack Obama is President, the issue may seem a tad ridiculous. But, what I am really talking about are those interesting stories that are occuring all around the country that deal with personalities, family, and community issues that deal with African-Americans.. For example, while foreclosures impact multiple communitites, there seems to be a more marked impact on African-American communities. How do you dig out those stories?

Given the impending doom of multiple newspapers and the lack of an African-American news anchor in Prime Time, what journals, websites etc. do you use to stay connected nationally?

Okay I will play. I love theRoot, Negrophile (via twitter) blackagendareport, the Black Commentator and Afrigeneas. Afrigeneas doesn't sound like a site that keeps up with the latest and greatest but there is a discussion section where members of the community post views on contemporary issues.

I wonder what happened to all the commentators of color since the campaign 2008? Did the earth slip of its axis and all people of color slide off? The MSM is hard pressed to widen its lens. We see the world through an increasingly narrow lens; but what else is new?

When the announcement of the nomination of Sotomayer for the high court came down, all I saw was how this was going to be unfair to a certain segment of the population. I thought the high court impacted all of us but you could hardly tell by MSM coverage.

And yes, there were critiques of Sotomayer by people of color. Theblackagendareport published an indepth critique of Sotomayer. It placed her somewhere between Marshall and Thomas, depending on the issue.

Thanks for playing. I have found Jack and Jill Politics helpful. OliverWillis.com (a Media Matters person) is another website I frequent. I also use the Root, as you do.

Infrequently, I go to HipHop Republican to see what younger Conservative African-Americans are discussing.

I wasn't the only one who noticed

Love the link to the included story about Donna Edwards of my home state. Thanks.

Edwards participated in a panel discussion in which Progressives addressed issues like whether we should increase troop levels in Afghanistan. Have you ever seen Rep Edwards on a prime time talk show?

Not once.

Good question!

My first stop every morning is TodaysDrum.com.

I also stop at Essense.com, Topix.net and AOL Black Voices.

I end the day with another visit to Todays Drum because they update during the day. Their news is simply positive, inspirational and motivational. No garbage.
