Thank You, Mitch Stewart ...

Mitch Stewart, from Organizing for America, is helping people who otherwise would have no voice because their Rep. is, well, nutty (with all due respect).  In my case it's John Campbell who is most famous as the author of the "Birther" bill.  Anyway the link (see below), will take you to an excellent Letter(s)-to-the-editor engine.  I recommend that anyone interested in helping should keep the pressure on these guys by using this engine to generate your letters.  The editors will print some of these if we all write.  I have read some eloquent posts here so I know that there is an abundance of literate talent in TPMCafe.  If this is a redundant post I apologize ahead of time. If not, then I urge you all to take five minutes and follow the link embedded below, then write a letter. It is really easy. I put the letter from Mitch to me in the extended format, and then the letter that I generated for my local and national media is after that.  Here's the link to OfA...

This is the letter I received:

Last night, the House of Representatives did a remarkable thing -- for the first time in history, a chamber of Congress passed legislation that would bring truly comprehensive health reform to America. 220 courageous representatives voted in favor of reform, moving it forward.

Unfortunately, your representative, Rep. John Campbell, caved to intense pressure from insurance industry lobbyists and voted against health reform. After this major decision, they'll be watching their district very closely to see how constituents react.

Before health reform can become law, it must pass one more time through the House of Representatives, which means Rep. Campbell will have one more opportunity to reverse course and support reform. So we must publicly show that the voters in your district support reform and are counting on Rep. Campbell to deliver.

One of the best ways to help is to write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper telling Rep. Campbell to stop standing in the way of reformYou don't have to be an expert to write a very powerful letter. We'll provide helpful information about the House bill and health reform. But the best content comes from you.

You can tell your personal story about why health reform matters to you, your family, and your community. You can write about how important it is that our representatives stand with their constituents and not the special interests. What matters the most is that you write from the heart and speak out as a concerned citizen at this crucial time.

With reform's passage out of the House, there are three major steps left, and it's going to be a fight the whole way: the Senate will soon vote on their version of bill, then there will be a last round of negotiations to combine them, and then a final vote in both the House and Senate.

Your words could mean all the difference in convincing Rep. Campbell to part with the lobbyists and stand with voters, and help ensure real health reform passes this year.

Here is my letter-to-the-editor:

Dear Editor, I want to thank the House of Representatives for the historic yes vote to reform Health Care (H.R. 3962) on Saturday November 7th. I am saddened that my Representative, John Campbell (R-CA) joined most of his Republicans 'party-mates' in attempting to obstruct this desperately needed legislation. I hope that those representatives who put their party affiliation, corporate interests, or their 're-election funds" before the interests of their constituents will be shown what it is like to be unemployed by the voters in their districts. John Campbell, most famous for introducing the "Birther Bill" (questioning President Obama's citizenship), has now voted clearly against the wants of his own constituents (LA Times poll says 62% of Campbell's own constituents want Health Reform). That percentage is only slightly lower than the National percentage, so any claim by John Campbell that he was representing us is a lie. Now, for those who voted for the H.R. 3962, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Though the Bill is imperfect, it is a commitment to start the process of healthy reform for an unhealthy Health Care Industry which has fought, tooth and nail for nearly a century to deny us. I especially feel grateful to the White House of President Obama for keeping the discussion sane and calm after the summer of Republican histrionics. Thank you in advance for considering my comments. I typically do not write letters-to-the-editor, so you have my consent to make any changes you need to make in order for you to publish this one. Keep up the good work Congress. Keep obstructing your way into the history books, Republicans.
