Wasn't Coleman the guy who wanted Franken to forego the recount because of the tremendous cost of the recount process? Now Coleman is going to lawyer up the procedure and challenge every Franken vote he can. You gonna pick up the State's tab for that Norm?

But let's be grateful that the whole book of sleazy Republican tricks for stealing a senatorial election is being given national attention so that what's left of the GOP's reputation gets even more soiled. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have Colemen and that subhuman-being in Georgia reelected. If someone can figure out a way to get them enough media exposure, the entire GOP might disappear. Maybe the Whigs would try a comeback - it would fit right in with the current Republican demographic base.

How about THAT! Communist Party USA wrote encouragingly of Ritchie's candidacy. Just what's the circulation of Communist Party USA? 18? And those are free copies that were stuffed into the back of the Pennysaver when nobody was looking. What exactly were these encouraging words written in said publication? "Yes, comrades, we have the highest hopes for fellow traveler Mark Ritchie (a/k/a Leon Trotsky V) whom we believe will restore to the world Maxist/Leinist principles of old and perhaps begin a new Cold War, albeit one centered in Duluth and postponed during July and August every year on account of the heat." I know Minnesota is the state that gave us Joe McCarthy (although they atoned for it somewhat with Gene McCarthy) - but smearing a guy with a copy of Communist Party USA?

But seriously folks –

I’ve seen a wagon load of anti-Obama stuff since the election, all of which revolves around a Communist/Marxist theme. Although it’s apparent that a lot of the people who are using the terminology couldn’t tell a Marxist from a Podiatrist, there seems to be developing a GOP strategy to utilize the Big Lie and make everything Obama proposes sound like it came straight from Che Guevera’s 50 greatest hits. That’s a little disturbing since it might put his administration on the defensive right from the start.
As noted in the item below, once again he's lent his name to an anti-muslim piece of hatred (The Third Jihad: Radical Islam's Vision For America), a sequel to Obcession: Radical Islam's War Against the West, a documentary that managed to offend every religious group on the planet. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't it sort of scary to have the chair of Homeland Security ready to call out the storm troopers whenever he sees a slightly built bearded man of swarthy completion.

Nevertheless, I'd like to note that my use of the term "douche bag" in the above comment was original to my thinking at the time it was written. Upon closer examination of other comments, I realize that this vaginal irrigation device is being used to describe the Connecticut Senator by increasing numbers of my co-commenter. Which leads me to the question: Why are more and more people thinking "douche bag" when they see Lieberman? The more traditional designations for the scum of the earth such as "shithead", "schmuck" and "fucking asshole" are being cast aside in favor of this more exotic epitaph. How come Lieberman's such a douche bag?

Absolutely true - militarism and jingoism took quite a hit in this election. Because the economy wiped everything else off the map, it's hard to remember that McCain's early campaign leitmotif was to totally disregard the absolute wrongness of the decision to go to war in Iraq and jump instead to the middle of things: "The Surge has saved us, my friends, the Surge!" "The Surge!" "We're winning in Iraq!" "I know how to win a war!" (Really?) "Our troops will come home with honor!" "Obama not like Surge. Obama bad."

But despite McCain's best efforts to impugn his opponent’s commitment to the true interests of the United States, bumper sticker patriotism couldn't carry the day. Obama's studied approach to the issues struck a chord in a majority of Americans. Perhaps even more that his skill with words, Barack Obama's calm manner has finally allowed us to be comfortable with analyzing and discussing alternatives to the exercise of military power and has put to rest the Rambo school of decision making.

Jennifer Brunner has managed a remarkable turnaround in Ohio, overseeing an election with transparency, accountability and best of all for the voters, relatively few snags in a key battleground state. Despite numerous Republican attempts to throw up roadblocks and impugn her integrity, she remained steadfast in her responsibilities (despite receiving death threats along the way). Quite a contrast from the Kenneth Blackwell charade of 2004 which probably would have landed Blackwell in prison if Kerry had won and a special prosecutor been appointed to investigate what actually happened.

I would look for Brunner to have an excellent future not only in Ohio politics, but on the national level as well. She is another example of the kind of woman who is drawn to the Democratic Party vs. the Palinesque Stepford Wives of the woefully out-of-touch GOP.

ADDED COMMENT: Why did MSNBC keep interviewing Blackwell all weekend and IDing him as a "McCain Supporter"? Seems to me that's like having John Wilkes Booth on and calling him "Democrat".

If Zogby can’t come up with a winning scenario for McCain it’s over. I think Zogby’s typical group of likely voters for this election has been culled from a 1978 membership list of the Young Americans for Freedom. Hard to imagine how a legitimate polling organization would have been coming up with the PA predictions Zogby's been releasing.

So one more time the man who hates to talk about his wartime sacrifice talks about his wartime sacrifice and implies that what happened 40 some years ago not only qualifies him to be president (why not call off the election?) but apparently entitles him to a pass for the least professional, most vile, most thoroughly dysfunctional campaign ever conducted by a major party. McCain has degraded himself in so many ways during this campaign, why not soil the one thing that he could be proud of in his desperate attempt to stem off irrelevancy and the contempt of his Senate colleagues.

It's safe to say that any letters that Rep. Conyers sends to AG Mukasey regarding voter suppression by the GOP will be unanswered. In all likelihood DOJ will be too busy investigating voter fraud charges against the Democrats - its number one priority as dictated by the White House.

Rep. Conyers sends a lot of letters. In a responsible government with any degree of accountability, letters such as his would be used as a starting point for focusing attention on abuses and ultimately leading to appropriate actions. But under the Bush Administration, requests of any kind from Congress are routinely ignored. Why should the administration comply with requests - it's not as if Congress ever does anything about their arrogant refusals to comply.

I hope that the next Congress will conduct an early and comprehensive investigation of the coordinated efforts by the Republican Party to suppress votes and the Bush Administration's complicity in such acts. There is no more fundamentally important right in a democracy than the right to vote and the degree of sophistication exhibited in recent years to deny selective groups of this right can't be overlooked.

How in God's name can someone like Michael Goldfarb, with the personality of an animated snot, get a job as a "spokesman" for a presidential candidate (even in a campaign as morally bankrupt as McCain's)? I wouldn't give this guy a job as a repo man. Frankly, I hope he turns up a few more times over the weekend with his s*iteating grin; it might turn a few red states to Obama, in addition to turning a whole lot of stomachs.

Proof positive that the poll numbers showing the closeness of the race in AZ aren't just coming from Obama-biased pollsters.

Another very encouraging sign: Newsday reported this morning that a Hofstra University poll shows Obama ahead of McCain 42% to 39% among suburbanite voters (the economy, stupid). If McCain doesn't win the suburban vote, he's got to be in deep stuff.

Is it too late for Palin to quit as VP candidate and replace Stevens as the GOP Senate nominee? Since the likelihood of winning the presidency seems to be fading, that at least would help the Republicans in their attempt to prevent Democratic control of 60 seats (and the Diva would get credit for temporarily salvaging McCain’s campaign after the convention and impeding a sure Democratic gain in the Senate all in the same year).
