TPM, Do Us All a Favor at CPAC

As long as you're talking to people and getting them on video, ask the attendees two things:

1.  Do you want Joe the Plumber to run for Congress?

2.  What are the five most important moments in American history?

As for the first, I overheard some hill staffers talking about Mr. the Plumber and saying that he could be making a run at the House.  Personally, I would love to see that since it would conclusively demonstrate their desire to lose all power.

And the second, I just want to know what they would say.  For me the five most important moments are the writing of the Constitution, Lincoln restoring the Union, the Reconstruction Amendments ending slavery et al, the New Deal, and the Civil Rights Movement.  What's striking about these are that none of them are conservative moments or can be counted as such. But we all share the same history, I just wonder what they think is most important.

Please do this!

Republicans' top 5 moments in American history:

1) Ronald Reagan being born
2) Ronald Reagan doing that movie with the monkey
3) Ronald Reagan elected president
4) Ronald Reagan invading Grenada
5) Ronald Reagan personally tearing down that wall with his pick axe, one brick at a time, not even pausing to wipe the sweat off his brow because Ronald Reagan didn't sweat

Thought #2 would be fun. Without reading the above list:

1) Signing of the Declaration of Independence
2) Ratification of the Constitution
3) The end of the War Of Northern Aggression*
4) Lincoln's emancipation proclamation
5) Kennedy's Apollo program

* - for the amusement of my southern kin.

Conservative Top Five Events:

1.) Dred Scott decision. (Sorry, Barack, you're not a citizen.)
2.) Compromise of 1877: Ended Reconstruction, paved way for Jim Crow, eventual GOP "Southern Strategy".
3.) Joe McCarthy, 1950, reports hundreds of commies employed in State Dept.
4.) Nixon elected, 1968. See #2, Southern Strategy. Rumsfeld and Cheney given their starts, along with Liddy, et al.
5.) Reagan elected, 1980. "welfare queens" (see #2 and #4 again), PATCO, $600 military hammers, Iran-Contra, Bushes, Abrams, Negroponte, Feith, Perle, Ollie, et al, eventually team up with the progeny of #4.

After serving 4 years Reagan was reelected with 49 of 50 states. Nuff said.

Simply one more instance of proof, Dennis D, that you can fool some of the people all of the time.
