Food for Thought: Pollan for Ag Secretary?

I'm not at all a fan of Nicholas Kristof, but he's got some good ideas going here. I've always been a little concerned about any potential influence that ADM might have on President-Elect Obama; appointing someone like Pollan (or a less prominent but perhaps more qualified candidate like one of the people listed at FoodDemocracyNow) would be a clear sign that he won't be unduly swayed by the agribusiness lobby.

Michael Pollan has no interest in the position. He told this to Bill Moyers.

I'm not actually sorry to hear that. Pollan will do better to continue to shed light on food sourcing and safety, agribusiness, and related matters in his writings, and there are, after all, more politically experienced candidates out there. Still, I was glad to see Kristof raising the idea of a "secretary of food," and calling more attention to the subject.
