A dog without a leash

As a language nerd, I found this story interesting, particularly the Italian translation for "maverick":

In Italy, "cane sciolto" or "dog without a leash" would be used, said ANSA Italian journalist Matteo Bosco Bortolaso.

Cane sciolto seems just about right for McShame right now. Except that most dogs I've known are much better behaved when they're off leash.

I would call Palin the dog without a leash. She's the bulldog that McCain can't seem to control. Either she's going over the line in her negative attack, or questioning her own campaign's judgement. And the religious right loves her, so she keeps doing it.
