The REAL Game Changer

As great as the President's speech was last night, I think THIS is the real game changer:

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-Nastyland)

It's a game changer because it brings the lunatic fringe lies of the deathers into the halls of Congress and into the face of the President.  That affront to decorum in their own clubhouse is exactly the sort of thing the Villagers hate most.

It is exactly what I was thinking. Wilson is my accidental hero!

You could tell by Lindsey Grahams spin (and the other Repubs spewing the same talking points) after the speech that it was the intent of the GOP to paint Obama as the partisan warrior who was making it difficult for the GOP to arrive at a bi-partisan bill. To wit:

"I was incredibly disappointed in the tone of his speech,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).”At times, I found his tone to be overly combative and believe he behaved in a manner beneath the dignity of the office. I fear his speech tonight has made it more difficult — not less — to find common ground.

"He appeared to be angry at his critics and disappointed the American people were not buying the proposals he has been selling. ... If the Obama administration and congressional Democrats go down this path and push a bill on the American people they do not want, it could be the beginning of the end of the Obama presidency."

Apparently they know that their slash-and-burn politics as exercised throughout the summer recess has been marginally successful and has not been well-received by the moderates. It was important for the GOP to appear to be the moderate champions in Congress who are being thwarted by these librul Dems and their President.

That was the plan. Those were the talking points.

And then along came Rep. Wilson of South Carolina. He stepped all over their talking points and became the poster child for the GOP response.

Is he a jackass? Well, yes. But in allowing all to get a glimpse just what kind of dialogue the Repubs have actually engaged in this debate, he is my hero. He may well go down in history as having played a very important role in getting genuine health care reform passed despite the Health Insurance Industry and its GOP lackeys having thrown everything at it they could to stop it.
