Apologia Bollocks!
I really don't buy or agree with Josh's rather charitable assessment of Gov. Mark Sanford's press conference performance. I've seen too many husbands and fathers give this kind of talk. Mention god alot, talk about how he's hurt his wife and family, talk about how it all began innocently, how the person was a "dear, dear friend," how he's agonized and wants everything to work out, all delivered on the verge of tears. I've seen and heard it all before, sometimes from my own father (to be honest about my own bias here). And it doesn't for one moment excuse the pain he has caused his wife, his family, his staff, his supporters, etc. There are better and worse ways to handle situations like this, and having Daddy totally missing for days (over Father's Day!) and come home to a rambling, emotional trainwreck of a nationally televised press conference is not one of the better ones. In the end, it's all about turning the shock, anger, frustration and fury that should be directed against you into pity and "woe is me I'm a victim of loving too much." Give me a break!
