Whats Up My Obama?
My Obama

The right wing blitz against president Obama though completely made of straw and mud is soaking into the minds of the unknowing, here is a sampling of todays news stories:
These are the top 3 read stories today at the Washington Times:
- #1 BOLTON: Obama continues Bush's 2nd term -- badly (libel)
- #2 EXCLUSIVE: Voight calls Obama 'good actor' (slander)
- #3 GAFFNEY: America's first Muslim president? (vilification)
- GREEN BAY, Wisconsin -- There was a rare sight along the motorcade route as President Obama
arrived here Thursday to talk about health care: a protest. In what was perhaps a surprising
sight for a president accustomed to an enthusiastic embrace wherever he goes, Mr. Obama was
greeted by several hundred protesters who, judging by their signs, oppose his economic policies
and efforts at overhauling the nation's health care system. Some of the signs read: "No Health
Care," while others read "No Socialism" and still more declared, "Taxed Enough Yet?"
( New York Times Thursday, June 11, 2009)
- 4 reasons why Obama's health plan is no bargain (CNN.Money.com)
There is an all out blitz in the media and on the web to discredit Obama in the minds of the American people. This debate over public health care is going to be hard fought by big money who has interests in private insurance, so we will hear some nasty stuff for sure. I used just two search terms ,Obama's sucesses and Obama's promises and the result was several dozen links, 90% of which were attacks against President Obama. I was really getting depressed and began to ask myself "if all these people are against him, how did we ever get him elected?" As I was wondering I found and read the following which reminded me why we elected barrack Obama.
From Long Island Business News, Debate Room ,Kremer (Opinion Piece): Thu June 11
"He's sharp. He's vague. He's articulate. He's unpredictable. He is as cool as a cucumber. He's got tremendous popularity among the general public. He is confusing to the Democrats and the Republicans. He's Barack Obama, and that speaks for itself
(read the whole thing here) >Kremer
We cant sit back, let him do all the work, and take all the abuse.Never have we had a president who tried so hard to keep his promises, who was so diligent in his service to us.He could just as easily ride his popularity and sit back and relax as others have done before him,but he doesn't. He keeps getting up every morning and going to work for us. So when you get angry with him and really frustrated just consider there was no better choice we could have made when we elected him, not in this country or any other, we were right in choosing him, so lets help "My Obama " out.> Health Care Now (what you can do)

I loved that when I read it... who first told us about that, the way the kids started greeting each other that way 'What's up my Obama?'? I can't remembew who wrote that blog.
President Obama is at a higher world view than much of america. He is very skillful at handling that and I am always amazed at his skill in this regard. I wish I had it.
However people who have more of a 'safety & security' world view are very activated by a president that they can't identify with. It's pretty scary for them. The leaders around them aren't helping them feel better, they are activating and using their fear to build opposition and friction because it gives them more power and traction with a president they can't relate to and don't understand.
He does deserve my gratitude and appreciation. There isn't any other person that I would want to have as our president right now. Considering the mess we are in, I am incredibly grateful that it is Barack Obama who is there in the whitehouse
Having said that, I am pissed off about some of his decisions. I will continue to argue and fight for things that are important to me. I don't think he has handled things perfectly by any means and more than anything, I just don't understand 'why' he has made some of the decisions that he has made... and that is challenging. I would like to understand.
Yet I observe, that no one could do what he is doing without a serious commitment to world service, a willingness to put others before your own needs, wants, and desires and a family willing to support him in this. We are very fortunate.
When I first saw Senator Barack Obama, it was the first time I had ever seen him and he was speaking to some town hall type group of people on CSpan. I had never heard of him or seen him before. (I did not see him speak at the democratic convention that first time). And when I listened to him speak on CSpan that first time I had ever seen him, listened to him... I said out loud to myself, I wish that this man was our president.
I went right to my computer and asked him to run for president. I didn't even know if was he was considering it at the time. I knew nothing else about him. It was just my direct experience of him.
Thanks for stimulating my memory of this and reminding me that he is doing us all a great service.

What Synch said. I threw my all into getting Obama into the White House because I knew he was the best choice. I don't regret it.
There are some things I totally disagree with, but all in all, I'm happy, and I'm proud of both him, and my decision to back him.
I want him to move bigger, faster, better, more....but knowing the alternative could've been McCain/Palin, well....

I am so upset at TPM and all you posters. Why aren't you all ranting and hating as those on other blogs do. Who do all of you think you are , patriotic Americans?. I read all of Kremers post, and responded as I thought was necessary. I hardly disagree with anything the Pres. has done so far. I am not sure what you are referring to, but it seems sometimes that we say this in order not to be seem as blindly following him, but if he's right, then I don't nickpick. I just know that I could never do what he is doing. Many aspire to be there until they get their wish and realize that only the best can do it well.

Syncronicity, The phrase " whats up my Obama"was reported by MJ Rosenberg here at TPM on April 25, it is what the school kids at the Albany NY schools say. When someone sneezes they say, "Barack you" Haha, love it. Thanks for your thoughts which run parallel with a lot of us I bet.Not always happy with his decisions but I voted for him because I saw he was very intelligent, and when I see him interact with his family I see his compassion. All the voices crying out to be heard must be mind boggling.

You've hit the nail on the head. Obama approaches his presidency in part like a community organizer, and we're the community. Love the cartoon. If we sit in our chairs and wonder "why doesn't someone help Obama" (or if we sit at our computers wondering the same thing)..then he's in this fight alone and after it's over we can shrug our shoulders in regret over the lost chances.
Here's what I'm doing.
1. I contribute regularly to Democracy for America and sign the petitions it generates.
2. I write letters to NPR when they "get it wrong".
3. When I get a litter from Barack Obama or Joe Biden asking me to sign a petition or write my congressman. I do it.
4. I'm assembling a list of addresses for state and local Democratic Parties. I haven't found these as easy to locate as I thought they would be. But once I get them, I'm writing them, commencing with those in the areas most under the Republican Thumb. I plan to offer to contribute to any campaign designed to create real constest the Imhofes Bachmanns Boehners and McConnells and their ilks in Congress.
I'm likely to offer to contribute to any progressive mounting a serious offensive agaisnt a blue dog democrat, as well--support Obama's program, I support you, don't support his program, expect blowback, from this windy guy in Rhode Island.
I don't have to give much if enough other members of this community give a few shillings, as well. A buck a day as long as Coleman and the NRP is resisting the seating of Franken, is the kind of campaign I like. http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/norm-coleman-gets-punkd-norm-dollar-day Cooks and Liars caught Coleman himself being asked to contribute. Thanks for that list, amike. The media will do what the media does, but they have been a little bit behind the general public for a while.
There are grassroots community groups all across Indiana working on this stuff, and we are communicating with each other and coordinating our efforts. I imagine it's the same in other states.

Amike thanks this is a great list of things we can do to be a part of the solution, it can be kept as a reference, which I will do, a flight check list so to speak, to be checked weekly. Thanks for this and all your involvement and valuable advice.

Now I know this is a serious discussion. But, first you have me laughing at another cartoon. I really really like these. hahah
Then you refuse to link cable news. hahahaahaha
Finally you write my sentiments exactly wehn you say:
We cant sit back, let him do all the work, and take all the abuse.Never have we had a president who tried so hard to keep his promises, who was so diligent in his service to us.He could just as easily ride his popularity and sit back and relax as others have done before him,but he doesn't. Dickday, Didnt really intend to get serious it just kind of seeped in on my humor. The other day Zipperupus sad that the republicans are impervious to most of the kinds of attack they invented, but vulnerable to sarcasm and ridicule which they don't quite grasp. Note that Stewart,Colbert and even Racheal have hit them hard with sarcasm to good effect. They just say like dick cheney ,"So?" Its like telling my redneck friend a redneck joke, he just says, "So.... What's yet point? "

You know, it absolutely drives me up the wall that Wall Street types, the banking industry, health care biggies, the insurance industry and other such powerful business interests along with a not insignificant portion of congress aren't able to figure out that when they screw the American people they aren't doing anything except screwing themselves. Honestly, these people are genuinely stupid. And as they say, you can't fix stupid. And it certainly can't fix itself. What's even more scary is I think it replicates by attaching itself to politicians.

When this movie first came out, we watched it on cable in our house, my siblings and I laughed so hard we were crying. Then, it came on again and we invited our parents, who were disgusted by the racism is portrays so boldly. They demanded we turn it off long befor eit finished, much to our objection.
A friend of theirs came to visit and we managed to convince our parents to watch the movie again, to give it another chance and see how their friend felt about it. We had tried to explain to them it was sarcasm on crack. When our guests saw it, they were rolling on the floor laughing, literally, not enough seats in the living room for all of us. We were all in tears by the end of the night at one point or another, each with our own favorite scene. This has always been one of mine. The last frame is priceless.
