Question : Who would become Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee if Liebermann is given the boot?

That's one angle of the issue that I have not seen discussed. Stripping Liebermann of his seniority should open up opportunities for lots of Democratic Senators to move up the totem pole. Apart from Party Discipline, I would have though that this would be the main driving force behind what is likely to happen. But not a word to date. Anyone got answers?

Terminal Breakdown of the Republican Coalition?

As I understand it, the Republican Party has 2 basic characteristics :  1. It is the party of Coporate Interests.  2. It is the party of "Conservatives" (Whatever that means).

And, traditionally, Republican Party discipline has always been much greater than the Democratic Party.

The stunnng thing about the Bailout vote was the fact that fully two-thirds of Republican House Members refused to vote in support of El Presidente Bush's plan, and to bailout their supposed corporate masters.

What gives? Is the Republican Coalition finally cracking apart? The confusion of rats trying to jump ship.

What Post-Partisan Attack Ads would look like....

Short version of theory : It ain't an attack ad if its' your opponent attacking himself!

John MacCain has contradicted himself so many times on tape, it should be relatively simple to put up a whole series of ads with nothing but him contradicting himself.

Imagine : "MacCain v. MacCain" 6 to 8 ads, with 2 episodes debuting per week, running throughout late August to September.

Episode 1 : Social Security Privatisation v. I've never advocated privatising Social Security

Episode 2 : War over in matter of months v. I've always said it will be a long hard struggle

Episode 3 : Don't know much about economy v. I never said....

Episode 4 : 16 months is a pretty good timetable v. I never said timetable.

Episode 5 : I have the valuable advice of Phil Gramm v. nation of whiners v. Phil Gramm doesn't speak for me, I speak for me

Episode 6 : Nothing off the table to fix Social Security v. I'll never raise taxes and MacCain campaign says MacCain didn't speak for MacCain.

Episode 7 Falwell is an agent of intolerance v. Speaking at Falwell's university.

I'm sure more episodes are possible... the repeated image of MacCain contradicting himself again and again and with news ads coming in 2 per week; should be enough to kill of the MacCain campaign.

And its' totally legit; 'cos its' MaCain hitting himself.
