Who to thank for Obama's ascendancy?
I've supported Obama from the start. I was impressed as hell with his convention speech in 2004 and predicted that we would be seeing ALOT more of him in the near future, although I thought it would a few years out from now (not that I am complaining.)
But in looking back at this long, long, loooong campaign, one thing becomes very clear. Hillary Clinton is the single biggest factor in the seeming insurmountable lead Obama is showing less than a week from Election Day.
Clinton put up a scrappy fight for the nomination and that is THE key element in Obama's poise and standing now. She got down and dirty; he survived. She changed up her message; he survived. She dug deeper, finding several factors that hurt him (Wright, intimations he was Muslim, him dressed in that silly garb); he survived.
It was trial by fire and he made it through. We have Hillary to thank for digging up Wright and desensitizing people to it back during the primaries. We have her to thanks for putting the Muslim smears out here so that Obama could effectively counter them back in the Spring.
Hillary put the Obama campaign through it's paces, shoring up the discipline, tact and steadiness that have come to characterize it. She forced them to stay on message despite the crap she threw at them ad that trial by fire has served them well.
Of course, other factors have contributed to Obama's run, but from a purely political campaigning standpoint, surviving the HRC juggernaut is second to none.

We're democrats. We like talking about stuff that makes us feel crappy about ourselves. It assuages the guilt.
Please can we talk about this some more. Here's some suggestions for other posts:
Hillary: Why do Obama supporters hate her so much?
Obama: How cool is it that he kicked Hillary's ass?
That should give us plenty to talk about. After all, it's not like we have anything else to do for the next seven days.

We can string this out a lot longer than 7 days if we work at it. But DEDICATION is gonna be required. It's a long road, with hard times and difficulties ahead. But if we work at it, steadfastly, I believe we can reach the Promised Land - Chelsea vs Malia, '36.
Yes We Can.

P.S. November 10? Do you plan on having a six day hangover?

It's the 6 day celebration period - not sure if the hangover will be over though :).

Hillary made him a better candidate for the general election, but I thank George W. Bush's hatchet job on America for Obama's rise. He left the door wide open for Dems to take over.

you get me wrong. I am not trying to disparage Hillary at all. She did what any politician would do, she tried to win. She softened the ground for what i hope will be an Obama victory. I would probably be saying the same thing about Obama if their roles were reversed.
I thought Hillary was an excellent candidate and at any other time, I would have thrown my full support behind her. I still like her.
All I am saying is that she ran a tough and smart campaign (far smarter than McCain) and tested the mettle of the Obama people. Alot of the ammunition that the Repubs would have been able to throw out there at the last minute was fully exposed long ago and ran itself out...
