Kyl's deceit supporting the theft of Habeas Corpus

Kyl's ofuscated connections on the Senate Floor while he was supporting the theft of Habeas Corpus, offering cover for GW's unconstitutional and inhumane actions. It is a classic case of right-sided circle-jerk referencing. More evidence that two wrongs now define the Modern American Right.

On September 27, 2006 Mr. Kyl spoke on the Senate floor to support the Military Commissions Act of 2006 unconstitutional taking of habeas corpus. Kyl cited Bradford Berenson as substantiation for his claims seven times in this one speech. Nowhere does Kyl mention that Berenson was a part of the team of White House Attorneys responsible for the torture memos, and the denigration of the Geneva Conventions.

Berenson's past employment includes:

  • Law Clerk for for known partisan hack, and head of GW's self-appointed whitewash Intelligence Investigation Committee, Laurence H. Silberman
  • Consultant to Independent Counsel David M. Barrett's investigation of Clinton HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros
  • January 2001 - January 2003: Associate Counsel to the President of the United States

The last is good evidence of Kyl's willingness to be deceitful. Surely when citing someone to support policies the cited individual had a hand in creating, one should mention that fact.

Berenson is also an American Enterprise Fellow, has held prominent Federalist Society positions, and a signatory to William Bennet's AVOT org's September, 2003 letter to Congress, "The Patriot Act Is Vital To Protecting National Security".

It should be no surprise that Kyl is deceitful, as he was less than forthright regarding his own antagonism towards the natural right of habeas corpus in the past. In 2005, he was sponsor of a bill that advocated stripping much of the Habeas Corpus protections away from convicted individuals.
