TWO IN ONE - THE UNSPOKEN GAINS
Obama, as President, brought a "new kind of pride" to the Afro-American community. Sotomayor, as Supreme Court Justice will also bring a "new kind of pride" to the Hispanic community. We hope "this new kind of pride" takes root to grow and develop into a new outlook in life, as these groups endeavor to assimilate into American life away from illicit and unlawful drug-trafficking and gang activities, which in the past, they had been associated with, mostly in the media and Hollywood movies.
These unspoken gains reveal a new reality in minority relations as the rule of law gains precedence over destructive substitutes for long-suppressed ethnic pride and individual self-esteem due to past historical grievances such as colonialism and slavery. These new benefits for both sides, should hopefully accrue as members develop greater interest in educational pursuits and community service, with a new appreciation for the work ethic and the development of a healthy self-respect based on personal achievement and earned merit.
Another unspoken benefit which commonly motivates both sides for constructive engagement occurs when majority members refrain from past habits of abandoning certain neighborhoods to these groups, who, when left to their own destructive designs, usually entangle themselves in the deleterious effects of underdevelopment and urban blight due to underlying gang and illicit drug activities which remained underground in the presence of lawful economic activity. Lawful economic activity and constructive residential engagement provide moral and legal restraints that effectively delegitimize irrelevant accusations of injustice and disenfranchised criminal isolation. Do not forget the ghettos and barios that exploded in the late 1960's and 1970's. They were formerly abandoned as "intractable."
Residential and commercial, social and special-events engagement between all groups is good for America, both in the present and for long term consequences. It is a fact that the lack of historical experience in implementing the Organizing Principle for orderly and constructive proceedings has plagued aggregates of these groups for decades. The new turn of events should enlighten majority members in sustaining the civilizing effect which their presence provides - it is to the upbuilding of American society that groups have an enlightened interest in impacting each other beneficially, for the good of all concerned.
We would encourage majority members to assist in neighborhood development, not just in terms of financing, but also by their presence which is commonly interpreted as good will, willingness to communicate and desire to live together in a nation esteemed for its ethnic diversity. And it is generally observed that where majority members do not run from certain neighborhoods and remain commercially and residentially active, this civilizing effect has greatly improved respect for law and order, the work ethic, common civility and community development. For, ground abandoned anywhere in America, in the absence of civilized living, is lost ground that in the long run will accumulate into enclaves of "no man's land," bound for eventual explosion in the future. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
These are the more obvious gains from current historical development, as seeds to be cultivated into trees of abundance for the beneficial welfare and constructive upbuilding of our nation, openly observed from the unspoken understanding that animates dialogue in the electronic media and the printed page, based upon real events now forming in this God-begun, God-blessed republic, the United States of America, from which the flames of liberty and the rule of law continue to enlighten the world.
