Palin's Portfolio managed by Smith Barney

My second favorite speaker at the DNC Thursday night will likely find it a sad irony that Sarah Palin's real estate portfolio is managed by Smith Barney.
There's a post about it at the wonk room.

Palin Pick

Will feminine freshness be enough to reinvigorate McCain’s waining maverick image and draw in an already lost demographic for Republicans? Doubt it. It's a shallow and insulting gamble. And it will most likely offend women voters who are blueprint, issues voters who are solidly behind the Democrats.

The pick instead makes McCain look like he’s desperately trying to keep up with the freshness of a future-focused Democratic campaign. This is evidences by how little he or anyone else knows her record. The choice could instead reinforce the growing image of McCain as the dusty, old man who is out of touch with the reality on the ground right here in America. How could it be a smart gamble to choose a weak, inexperienced Palin just to add a sense of freshness and maybe gain a small slice of Hillary voters? Can her gender alone combat the strength of argument from Hillary herself on national television, buttressed by former president Clinton’s sensational rallying call to get behind Barack Obama?

Another thing that should be obvious:
The perception that women voters are dissatisfied with a Clinton-lacking Obama ticket and thus pose a potential weak spot is a false one, just look at the poles. Obama/Biden lead among women significantly.

I think McCain’s chances are slim to none. Ultimately, women voters pay attention to issues first and dusty old men last. Most of all, if Palin takes on the air of John McCain’s political Glade Plug-in I’m hedging my bets on offended women firming up behind Obama/Biden harder than ever.
