Don't Let Georgia Nominate Vernon Jones as Senate Dem Nominee

Yesterday Georgia had primary elections. The usual suspects (i.e. the incumbents) all won in the Congressional Races.

The Georgia Senate Primary is going into a runoff between Dekalb Ceo Vernon Jones and former State-Representative and Vietnam Veteran Jim Martin.

Jones was the one that invoked Barack in a campaign mailer without his consent. Jones is very talented but also has numerous character flaws and baggage . He has had problems with his employees and has been criticized for being proud of voting for Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Jim Martin is the more credible candidate to take on Saxby Chambliss. read more

Putting Vernon Jones on the ballot as the Dem nominee would be a mistake. Click here to help Jim Martin

Obama - Coattails in Ga. Primary

It seems that Obama's coattails were working in the Georgia Primary today. Obama endorsed John Barrow who while many felt may be a bit vulnerable is crushing his opponent. Hopefully this will make Barrow work harder for the ticket in the fall as well as represent his district better.

Also, Vernon Jones, a controversial African American Dekalb County CEO, appears headed for a runoff with Jim Martin. Many predicted that Jones may not make the runoff. Apparently his controversial cropped photo with Obama may have helped. Obama's camp was not particularly happy about the photo.

I think tonights results certainly show Obama's strengths.
Not sure what will happen in a runoff between Jones and Martin, but do not count Jones out. Either are a long shot against Saxby Chambless in the fall.

Don't Come to America If you are HIV Positive

That's what is being said of  Jeff Sessions opposition to the $50 billion AIDS Bill.  Read Today's Article in The Birmingham News.

He is opposition to removing the ban that is currently in place. We didn't even know there was a ban.

This comes despite bipartisan support as well as support of the Bush administration. Furthermore ,  A coalition of Religious leaders said

"Decades of experience has made it abundantly clear that behavior change, not border control measures, will stop the spread of AIDS,"

Amen to that.

Even the White House said in a policy statement

"Congress and the American people should be proud of this compassionate program, which is bringing hope and healing to millions of people around the world,"

Okay, so getting rid of Jeff Sessions is an uphill battle this fall. But we can't win if we don't try. Donate a few bucks to his opponent the more Progressive minded Vivian Davis Figures.

Wacky World of California GOP Politics

Tom McClintock who is already running against Charlie Brown in California-04 has already formed campaign committees for Lt. Gov. and the State Board of Equalization. See the San Francisco Chronicle

Mind you that McClintock is a frequent flyer loser in Statewide California Contests and Congressional Races.
He does keep getting elected to the State Senate for some reason though.

Anyways, we need to help Charlie Brown who is not a career politician like McClintock.  We have got to hammer the candidate already looking for the next race with four months to go in a competitive Congressional Race.

Charlie Brown is committed to helping the people of this district. McClintock is committed to running in another statewide election.

Help me and Donate now to Charlie Brown.

Two For Tuesdays: Don Siegelman at Netroots on Thursday

Tomorrow will be our Third Two for Tuesdays at The Progressive Electorate. Donate some increment of $2 each week between now and November. We have 17 great candidates from diverse geogrpahic regions of the country. Find one or two or five and donate $10, $20 or $40 or more. We are well on target to reach $3200 by election day.

Also, we have news that Don Siegelman will be in Austin for Netroots on Friday Morning. Sorry that we did not post this earlier last week. Governor Siegelman has an amazing story to tell and seeing him last week, I can tell you he is in amazing spirits. Visit his website at www.donsiegelman.org and help raise awareness for this situation.

Why not to Support Cynthia McKinney; Please Ignore Her

I should not even have to write this diary. However, I'm a little concerned that with the FISA issue and the appearance of Obama moving to the middle that this would encourage some to look at the Green Party Candidate. In fact, I read a diary a few minutes ago in support of McKinney.

1. Even if McKinney did not make anti-semetic remarks her supporters including her father did. Billy McKinney said on air that the reason she lost was "That ain't nothin'. Jews have bought everybody. Jews. J. E. W. S." . Her father has made several anti-semetic remarks. Just google Billy McKinney and some variation of anti-semetic.

2. Certainly McKinney has been an activist for important progressive ideas such as being an early opponent of the war and the Bush administration. She has shown success in  human rights activism and Hurricane Katrina activism. However, that activism seems more suited for outside of elective politics because she is very divisive and not a unifier.

3. The Capitol Hill Police Incident - McKinney struck a Capitol Hill officer with a closed fist. McKinney was mad because the cop did not recognize her and she was not wearing her member pin.

4. CBS affiliate Television Station caught her calling a staffer a fool.  Enough said on that.

5. Cynthia McKinney hurt Gore in 2000 by saying that "Gore's negro tolerance has never been too high".

The moral of the story: Please do not be swayed by anythng that McKinney says in relation to this election.
