Competent Clinton = High approval
CNN reports http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/25/clinton.poll/index.html
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sky high approval numbers among all groups, which is amazing just about 9 months after she reached her all time low. One reason for this is that for the first time in almost 20 years, Clinton is not in or running for an elected office in Washington and neither is her husband. She is in a diplomatic post and that changes the dynamics. She is being judged for her competence rather than political positions and there are only limited efforts by her critics to defame her. I think it's great that such a tireless public servant as Clinton is finally being seen in a fair light and getting the kudos she deserves.

I think it shows that Clinton is a better diplomat/public servant than she was a politician. Not a bad thing, by the way - not at all. The "politician" part has derailed many people who had a lot to offer, with the exception of electability.
Here's hoping things continue as they have to this point.

The fact that she wasn't my candidate never made believe she wasn't one very smart and capable person. When she got nominated for SoS I thought it was a great choice and she hasn't disappointed.

Very good post Professor. Secretary Clinton has dedicated her entire life to public service. I love seeing those old reels where she is an aide at the Watergate hearings.
Always public service.

Thank you, good to see you have an appreciation for history. Too often our public discourse though quite passionate, lacks the requisite historical context to match. kudos

I could not agree more. I'm an amateur history buff, and I think we need to look at all the major present-day developments in our world through the lens of history. On my personal blog I try to offer a bit of historical background as a means to determine if our current courses of action have any merit.
It's fascinating how so many bad things stay the same, even when we have the benefit of hindsight to point out the problems.

I've thought for awhile now that Hillary is damn glad NOT to be the president.

What are her high ratings due to? I mean, she hasn't made bad gaffes, and she's been visiting around the world, but are those what "competent" amounts to? It's a little early to judge her either way.

Yep, she hasn't said anything stupid, insulted any allies, or started any wars.
The bar is so low now, that's quite enough to be getting high approvals.
