In reality, a one party system is not a good thing for a democracy. But the situation now is such that there won't be a Republican party very much longer. Maintaining the stand of lower taxes and less spending, to placate the rich and hopefully fool everyone else, isn't going to work anymore. Their phony patriotism isn't going to fool anyone any longer.  Their reliance on divisiveness and fear is worn out. People have caught on to their act, finally.  That's why they were largely thrown out of office in the last election.  All of McCain's and his party's lies were seen for what they were by the majority of the country.

And now the ones that are left, clinging to these tired ideas, are kowtowing to a radio show blow hard.  A hate monger who would rather people suffer than he and the Republican party and their conservative principles be wrong. They are all stuck in a tar pit of their own invention, and they will eventually just die off...become extinct.
