Texas Governor Perry's Cessation Statements Dangerous

Texas, my state, has very qualified conservatives like Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson and Congressman Ted Poe with whom I mostly disagree but have respected for their deeds. Texas Governor Rick Perry is the perfect encapsulation of what conservatives have allowed themselves to become. Threatening Texas' cessation from the United States of America was not only silly but dangerous for the militia and fringe element in our state that will use that statement as a catalyst for their movement. One simply needs view the crowd's reaction to his statement. The irony in all of this is that Governor Perry and his cohorts would normally accuse anyone making such statements as being un-American or hating their country. What hypocrisy.

It's Secession......

Yesterday Tom DeLay in the usual lying liars effort to create some mischief on Hardball offered the presumption that Texas has some extra-ordinary right to secede or even split into 5 States to gain some super Texan majority in the Senate.

Of course both Governor Perry and DeLay are blowhards and lying or believing in some Texan legend that doesn't exist.

For one the idea of Texan secession was already taken up in court where in 1868 in Texas v. White was already decided by the SCOTUS. They lost writing "The Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union, composed of indestructible States."

Now as for the split of the Texas into 4 new states, "of convenient size, not exceeding four in number, in addition to said state of Texas, and having sufficient population, may hereafter, by the consent of said state, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the federal constitution." ---Annexation of Texas. Joint Resolution of the Congress of the United States, March 1, 1845.

Well of course Tom DeLay thinks that this would be approved by Texans in the first place where what kind of 5 state boundaries would take place now. Could we see West Texas, Rio Grande, Houston, Panhandle and Central? Would they like losing all the federal aid....come on and you think that the 5 would split into a unified front. I could see Austin Liberals running the central portion, Hispanics ruling the Rio Grande and a rise of unions in the Houston area while Dallas and the panhandle would go their own way.

Go ahead Tom go for it.

Hey, if Texas secedes, we might even get in a war with them and have an opportunity to hunt down George W. Bush in his spider hole!!

It's a fun fantasy, anyway.

I second the motion......only seriously.......go ahead. I'll move back for that!

The only thing dangerous are the people in this country who take statements like this and twist the meaning in order to say "Gotcha!" and score some sort of a point.

As far as whether any state would forgo the federal bribe money that keeps them in line is a real question. Probably not. However, what would happen if that money dried up?

Another thought to wrap your brains around is whether or not 550 Politicians are even remotely capable of governing 300 million people. In my 57 years I've seen some severe degradation.

I'm wondering if Texas cesedes, would illegal immigrants from Mexico have second thoughts about wanting to come into our beautiful country knowing that these people want out!!!!

Comments from those who hate Texas secession make me certain it MUST HAPPEN! "Liberals" hate freedom & liberty and they now have the most idiotic and corrupt Federal Government in U.S. history, whose only goal is fostering their continuation in power at the expense of individual rights. In case they don't know it, there is more conventional firepower in Texas than the rest of the country combined so if it comes down to a fight, my money is on Texas (WE LIKE GUNS & FREEDOM AND KNOW HOW TO USE BOTH). Austin Liberals will want to move to MA or another socialist state for sure (good riddance).
