Yes, taxes are patriotic!

Last night Sarah Palin repeated the tired republican talking point mocking Biden's statement that paying taxes is patrotic. I say fight back on this! These are the people who hide behind empty slogans like "support our troops" and "country first." Well, guess what? If you really want to "support" our troops, then the only way most Americans can really do so is by paying taxes! So, if supporting the troops is patriotic, then so is paying taxes. And the same thing with "country first." How do most Americans put their country first? With their 1040s! I find it insulting that wingers constantly talk about lowering taxes as if it's the solution for any problem, yet always hide behind shallow patriotism. Nobody likes paying taxes. But real patriotism isn't easy. It means shared sacrifice, including paying taxes that serve the greater good of the country. Say it loud, say it proud: Taxes are patriotic!

Sure, you can see Russia from here, but...

From AC360:
Little Diomede is fascinating. It looks like the moon would if you built a lunar settlement. It’s full of rocks, dirt, and craters. We were curious if Sarah Palin has ever visited this island. According to the natives, the answer is no. ...

...No American mayor resides in a city closer to Russia than Andrew Milligrock, and he says being two miles from Russia doesn’t give him any foreign policy expertise.

Speaking of ethanol...

This is from the Dayton Daily News:
Obama ... hopes to capitalize on Republican presidential nominee John McCain's opposition to the farm bill and to a federal mandate for ethanol usage, which left some farmers feeling betrayed.
"This could mean a switch in the traditional rural vote from the GOP to the Democratic Party," the Ohio Corn Growers Association claimed in a Sept. 4 e-mail.

Can Ethanol help Obama bag Ohio?

During the debate, John McCain reiterated his goal of dropping subsidies to the ethanol industry. Obama, who comes from a corn state, has no such plans. Now may be the time for 527s and others to start reminding Ohio voters that Obama is on their side. It's his best shot at making inroads into rural Ohio, where Republicans typically lead. If Obama can be perceived as the friend of the farmer, it might be enough to get them to break with tradition and vote Democratic.
