All the people freaking out about this appointment or that advisor need to chill the fuck out.

Have you forgotten who Obama is already? He's the guy who listens to everybody, gets every point of view. He listens to everybody, and then he makes the decision, and most of the time, it's the right decision. Even if I don't agree with the decision, I understand that it was a thoughtful decision.

Obama is a strong thinker and a strong leader. He gets stronger from having a variety of views and styles around him, but always, he sets the agenda, and he sets the tone.

That's the key. He sets the agenda, and he sets the tone.

My first political memory is the resignation of Nixon, when I was 8. I've always figured that led to my ongoing belief that government always lies, and that shaped the political apathy that was the rule through most of my young adulthood. It took about three decades, the worst president in history and the most inspirational president in history to turn that around for me, but I'm glad it's finally happened.

Your son is very lucky. He's starting out with hope. I'm finally getting hope that if we work hard now, we can give him a great future.

More to the point, he did this by quite literally running against politics as both those groups practiced it.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

I may never be able to list all of the ways in which this election makes me happy, but this is near the top of the list. Obama has shown that a campaign with core principles and a strong positive message can defeat a campaign of sleaze. It's very powerful.

I have no illusions that it will all be kittens and sunshine from here on out, but still, it's a huge change in the right direction. It lifts us all.

I'm just so damned happy this morning.

And late. Why the hell should I be expected to make it to class on time on a day like this?

I love all the ads that come right out and label McCain desperate. It weakens not only the specific attack, but all his other attacks, too. People start assuming that anything McCain says about Obama is a desperate lie, which means that even if the McCain camp came up with the ultimate smoking gun in the next four (4!!!) days, half the country would ignore it because he's the politician who cried wolf.

I think all this early voting talk will have the effect of demoralizing the Republicans and reducing their turnout.

Obama supporters are so excited about Obama that we'd vote even if the election was a lock. We all want to be able to tell future generations that, yes, we were there, and we voted for him.

Republicans are just sad and frustrated about the whole state of things right now, and some of that is bound to translate into a "why bother" attitude on election day.
