Inadvertent Honesty?

Remember how Bush always said he'd adjust Iraq troop levels based on the advice of "our commanders on the ground"? Sure, skeptics realize the Pentagon brass delivers unpleasant counsel at their peril. But now we find apparent confirmation of our suspicions about the veracity of those presidential assurances. It turns out Bush is perfectly capable of acknowledging reality and adjusting policy accordingly, at least now that the horror of Iraq has deepened enough for even MSM commentators to broach the term "civil war" to describe things there. In his press conference with Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki, as Dana Milbank notes, the president said, "Obviously, the violence in Baghdad is still terrible, and, therefore, there needs to be more troops." "Therefore"? "Obviously"? My, how times have changed.
