Let us NEVER forget the slimey depths McCain and his campaign went to, to try and smear Obama. Yes, we can move forward with a spirit of bipartisanship but that doesn't mean we have to be fucking idiots and pretend that "it wasn't that bad" because Obama won. Mccain tried the same tricks that Bush & Rove used in 2000 and 2004. Fortunately, and finally, the American public was fed up with them and didn't buy into the politics of fear. But trying to re-write history says so much about chuckie.

I watched the results come in with my wife and daughter. We had some anxiety early on in the evening when the Virginia results were showing McCain in the lead but as the results started to accumulate and especially when Pennsylvania was called, we knew it was just a matter of time.
At my daughters school yesterday, they held a mock election. She is 5 and when I picked her up she said "Daddy, I voted for Obama but most people voted for McCain". (We live in Oklahoma so no surprise there). She spent the entire evening drawing ballots on blank pieces of paper and writing in the names of people she knew and then putting an arrow next to Obama or McCain. It was absolutely priceless.
We had put her to bed a little before 10pm but I knew that the West coast votes would put Obama over the top so I brought her back into the living room and she sat between my wife and I as the announcement came. History indeed! I'm not ashamed to say that I cried. This is not the country of my birth but I have always loved America and today I am so proud that our country chose hope over fear.
All of my siblings back in Ireland were hoping that Obama would win and the reactions from around the world are proof positive that yesterday, America got it right.
I know that for most of us, yesterday is a day we will never forget.
Man I love this country!

Yeah, the first line of numbers add up to 100% but the second line adds up to 91%.

As for the parting question of the number of undecideds at this point in the race, 1% may be low but certainly 11% is pretty high. I would imagine that at least 95% of people have decided who they're voting for. Of course, they may tell the pollsters that they are undecided but anyway.

Why is it that republican party are rabidly against an organization who's sole purpose is to register as many people as possible? Why is that? Bear in mind what Josh has said repeatedly, the "scandalous" cases involve voter registration fraud, NOT voter fraud. You can register Mickey & Minnie Mouse but they won't be showing up to vote on November 4th (oops, my bad, perhaps George & Laura will vote). But seriously, where's the harm in registering more people?
It's the same with the repub's attitude toward the ACLU, their mission is to defend the Bill of Rights, what's so wrong with that?

On a related topic, how come the majority of college educated people support the Democratic party while the majority of non college educated people support the republicans? The obvious answer is ignorance, right?

This is an excellent point. While I think Obama did great tonight, I felt worried throughout the debate that Mccains comments might resonate with voters. Perhaps it was me being overly anxious but I agreed with some of the pundits that this was mccains best debate and wondered if that would be reflected in the "Snap-polls" afterwards. As you mentioned above, the narrative of the race was fixed over the past couple of weeks. Ordinarily, mccains tactic of questioning Obama's character would have gained at least some traction (I'm sorry to say), but with the financial crisis, people are looking for answers not gossip.
