Bush: Less a Cowboy than a Rodeo Clown
Once again we see Pres. Bush at his absolute best: confusing the issues and knocking over the straw men he constructs. Thousands of people died in post-Katrina flooding when the levees protecting New Orleans broke? Not lack of funds or incompetence of FEMA, but rather the state's inaction. Or the city's inaction. Or who could have predicted a hurricane followed by a flood. Or whatever comes next.
Followed by appropriately scripted photo ops of Bush consoling victims, Bush thanking rescuers. He's not the cowboy riding into town to set things straight, he's the rodeo clown causing a big distraction. What, Katrina? Hey, look over here. Planes at airport. People boarding buses. Bush speaking about returning to normalcy. Nothing to see here. Move along, America.
Meanwhile nothing ever changes.
