World's most heart-rending break-up scenes: Geithner and the tax payer
Here they are, played respectively by John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer
The sound is a bit garbled, so here is the transcript, as best as I can make out:
- You're only [eight years] late, but I get so frightened. I become convinced I'm never going to see you again.
-My [constituent].
-Is it like that for you, too?
-Yes. At this moment, for example, I'm quite convinced...I am never going to [help] you again.
-What?
-I'm so [captured by the bank-lobby], you see. It's beyond my control.
-What do you mean?
-Well, after all, it has been [two] months. So, what I said...It's beyond my control.
-Do you mean you don't [serve] me anymore?
-My [dedication to public service] had great difficulty outlasting your [vote]. It's beyond my control.
-It's that [financial sector], isn't it?
-You are quite right. I have been deceiving you with [AIG], among others. It's beyond my control.
-Why are you doing this?
-There [are other banks]. Not AIG, [other banks]. [Banks] I adore. And I am afraid they are insisting that I give you up. It's beyond my control.
-Liar! Liar!
-You are quite right, I am a liar. And it's like your [unemployment numbers], a fact of life. No more nor less irritating. Certainly beyond my control.
-Stop it! Don't keep saying that!
-Sorry. Beyond my control. Why don't you take another [loan]? Whatever you would like. It's beyond my control.
-Do you want to kill me?
-Listen. Listen to me. You have given me [a great job]. But I simply cannot bring myself to regret [betraying] you. It is the way of the world. Quite beyond my control.

I just saw SNL doing a skit on Malkovitch. It is like a skit on a skit. Starts out real quiet and then promises not to rage over his losses to Madoff.
I laugh every time I see him.

Thanks for stopping by Dij! and much appreciated. Yes, I hesitated between this one and 'The Banks who say Ni!', but when I saw it again I realized I feel just like the tragic Tourvel...
