Declaration of Independence ( From The Democratic Party)
I know that the term "dixicrat" has not been used for many years. In this election, I think the term applies and is a state of mind for many people in the Democratic party. It was apparent in Ohio, and played a large role in Hillary Clinton's win last night in Pennsylvania. It will also show up in West Virginia and all across this country. It is the reason that this country will never move forward, regardless of the nice platitudes about diversity and needing to be "one nation." It is the race issue. While many Americans have truly come a long way in terms of race, this campaign has reared the ugly face of racism is undertones that are now no longer subtle.
Sure, Clinton has women salivating over the possibility of a woman in the Whitehouse, but many of her supporters are also carrying the scent of bigotry and disguising it with discussions of Senator Obama not being "ready" yet. "He needs to perhaps serve as Vice President for 8 years under Hillary," as I heard a woman on C-Span say. But many of her other sentiments prior to that comment suggested that if Senator Obama was the nominee, she would have to vote for McCain. What's that about if not race?
I worked for both Clintons. I have worked for the Democratic party. I guess I knew that there were closeted racists in this party, just as in the general population. I just didn't think it would spring to the surface in such a nasty way. Not this party. Not now.
I couldn't support Hillary even before Bill's 'Jesse Jackson' comments. I can't get her war vote out of my head. Not with so many lives lost. Now her Iran comments just scare the hell out of me. In my mind, she is just like McCain. She is really a republican in a Democrat's pantsuit. Her shift to the right to woo racist, beer drinking , uneducated people by drinking shots and beer and playing the race card. Her campaign manager Terry McCauliffe went through the looking glass last night by praising Fox News for being fair and balanced and "calling the election for Hillary." What the hell happened to the Democratic party? They are wooing white racists and praising Fox News!
I have had it. I can't stay with a party that uses race to scare up votes. I can't vote for Hillary because she has pandered to Jewish voters with threats of "obliterating Iran" to scare up votes. She is now a gun toting blue collar beer drinker. I can't vote for her because of that. I can't vote for her because she and Bill have thrown one their base constituencies under the bus to win. I can't and won't vote for a party that would allow her to browbeat the super delegates into giving her this nomination.
What started out for me as the most inspirational campaign in my life, is now just a "bitter" pill. I won't swallow it, and I know that many people of color feel the same way. This party is torn in half. This party is no better than the republican party. In fact, I think the republicans are at least honest on one issue. They are racists, and they will use race over and over again to win. I just didn't think my party would. My party. What a joke. Any party that wants the Clintons, Carville, and Lanny Davis as the heads and spokespersons for it can't be my party. Now I know how disaffected republicans feel. It's a horrible feeling. I'm done. Good luck with President McCain.
