No Prize! No Peace!

Er, or do I have that backwards?

As the world isn't at peace, nor ever has been, (excepting Pax Romana--maybe) we should revoke every peace prize ever given.

ya think?

Peace is the prize. No medal or ribbon, no fancy document with pretty lettering will ever change that. No one person can be granted it - it belongs to the world.

Now that's a peaceful thought to take to bed with me.

Waft on through if you're so inclined. Linus is always so glad to welcome you. :-) And I bet I am too.

BTW - is everything OK?

I think of peace as the reward for showing an increased level of cultural maturity. Ultimately the prize will be outgrowing our ability/desire to exterminate ourselves.

I think Obama's NPP is a practical push in the right direction.

Cultural maturity.

That may be harder to achieve than peace. But any push in that general direction can't be dismissed as unwarranted.

Ya know, I was thinking about Afghanistan and how everyone involved wants the US out of there, and while each group may have differing reasons for that strategy, they all agree the main reasons are because we're not helping, we're making things worse and we can't win anyway.

So why don't we just get out? Turns out there's all kinds of groups that can take over and are willing to once the US leaves.

MHO? At least until maybe very recently, like maybe around a month or less, it would have been political suicide for a Democratic President to even suggest it. And almost assured suicide for every Dem that supported him.

And that's why we don't have peace. Because the farking Republicans would have made (and maybe still can?) sure the Democratic party could never interfere with it's power again from the minoruty position.

Am I wrong?

CT is an ass.

hahahaahah. I am speechless. hahahah

Fun to see Bwak publish.

It is your conclusion that makes me laugh though.

Who really knows what ultimately work Iraq or Afghanistan? The general public most certainly does not have all the facts and most of the general public does not even have the facts that are available.

I think we have an administration that is going to weigh the options carefully and try to do what is in the best interest of the country and the men and women who serve in the military. I can't expect more than that.

I believe, rightly or wrongly, that political considerations are low in this administration.

And, how DARE he be selected for an award. I am outraged.

Aflred Nobel's peace prize. Peace through H/E?

Interesting route...,and i suspect; less than optimally effective.

Here's a thought for you:
Posit there must be a peace prize recipient, given out every year. Who would you pick this year, and why?

There's a reason I'm not on the committee.

I haven't the foggiest notion...

I look at it this way. The prize is as much for America as Obama. They just can't give it to a nation - even one that has begun to reverse its badly mistaken direction of the preceding eight years.

And peace? Has it ever been anything other than local? And have we (humanity) ever been other than in a state of fighting, preparing to fight, or recovering from the last fight - while preparing for the next one?

We can try to make it more peaceful, in and around ourselves. Best we can do, best we can hope for.

Much to think about in your little post here, cheecken. Thank you for that.

And CT is an ass...hat.

heartily approves this message...

PAX ROMANA was a rather relative sobriquet. I mean Rome was always at war.

I keep playing the same peace song.

The world needs all the prompting it can get with regards to keeping the peace.

Peace is like justice, something you see once in awhile in an isolated place.

user-pic

PAX AROMANA?

Peace, real and enduring, does not occur in nature. One thing is always at war with another. Just because we call ourselves a civilized species does not mean we are exempt from the wildness. We never will be until we cease to exist.

Giving out a prize for Peace is impossible.
Giving out a prize for aspiring toward Peace is doable.

I do not wish to change my avatar. :o)
