Healthcare Rally Update - PLEASE REC! Thanks! Also, Ack! TIME IS SHORT!
UPDATE on the July 30 Single-Payer Healthcare Rally in DC,
Howdy.
So far, there is $262 (late update: sync sez as of 10:30 we are up $525!! Keep 'em coming!) to in donations towards Gumbun's travel expenses. Read her personal story to learn why hers is a voice that should be heard on the hill. Also, Gumbun is putting a video together and requests video clips. Donations are definitely needed now to cover Gumbun's costs. The sooner the airline ticket is purchased, the less it will cost! Your help is needed.
If you are like this chicken, and don't have 2 nickels to rub together until payday, you can still help get the word out. Cut and paste the following, especially the donations link, and send to everyone. Thanks, you all rawk!
To donate, Synchronicity has set up a PayPal Page, or contact synchronicity@yeswecan.com if you have any trouble using the paypal link. (Synchronicity will provide a full accounting).
Americans are up against a powerful, well-financed lobbying effort, but they can be beat with our superior numbers!
There will be a multi-organizational rally in Washington, DC, July 30th to express the voice of the people who demand a single-payer healthcare system. HealthcareNOW is coordinating people to ensure every Congressperson on the Hill is individually visited by people who are determined to have a single-payer healthcare system implemented here in the United States. Please visit the website and decide whether this is something you want to support. Healthcare NOW is offering a teach-in in NYC on July 25. You can link to it live here:
Other news, Rep. Anthony Weiner of NY is going to offer an amendment for single payer in the Commerce Committee so please take some action in support of that amendment if you can.
Now would be better than later.
This is probably some of the most important legislation that will come from Congress in the 21st century.
It's time to get this done! Thanks, as always, to all of you, and all you do.

Some of us are learning to cluck in the right key precisely, some of us already knew how already. O Cheeken! You are one of the few with absolute pitch! Cluck cluck! Peeps, we need either a few really Really REALLY generous dough-nations or a HUGE amount of donations on a smaller scale. Ya know what I am sayin'? Five bucks and you're a hero? Twenty bucks and you're a hero? Fifty, if you haven't paid attention and are catching up? See, I am thinking on the scale of a mother with two unemployed adult children without healthcare, and another with child support and alimony tax- that's another story, but I love this country- we all have tales to tell.
Does anybody remember what we al DID to get Obama elected?

Yez! Nothing this century is as important as healthcare reform. We either help each other thrive, or we can expect to live in a 3rd world country, the USA.

US of A....the new banana republic....
US = UNiTED STATES. And A? Well, that we all know is America. But throughout all my life America or Amurica, the way it is received in other English speaking countries' ears, has been touted as the more important term of the three, I think; the one emphasized in Lady bird Johnson's Keep America Beautiful movement.
To the outside world, America can mean almost anything else in this part of the hemisphere. South America is American, Canadians think the US are ignorant about what America includes for the reason that Canadians feel their North American geographical association is inclusive of a larger area than Canada. So, my point or my question LisB is about what the overall** A** the US is of, please, if I must think about it when next I peel a banana- If we ARE united as the United States of A ? (And I think we are. And I hope we are, but that might define itself as a too right leaning hope?) And this is the bug that bugs and sings in our collective ear.

I meant to say we have $200 more to raise for the hotel etc and we will be set...we are not there yet!!!

You will be, sync. Or rather, Gumbun will be.
At this point, now that folks know the ticket is purchased and what further funds need to be raised ASAP, it will get done.
We're a pretty amazing group of people, after all. And our voices will be raised beautifully by the eloquent Gumbun ... and others who will represent TPM.
Thank you - great job.

Good on you, Gumbun!
And good on you, too, Bwak!
Good to see more people actively involved in the fight. I have been hoping for another rally and citizens' lobbying effort in D.C. that would be bigger and better than the ones I attended in June. For as many organizations as were represented, I thought the turnout (about 7,000) was dismal. I'd like to see a quarter million faces on the Mall.
I would also go to the July rally, if I had more bucks. Anyone leaving or passing thru St. Louis by car can count on me to drive a few hundred miles if I can hitch with them. I would sleep in a ditch if I had to.
Also, how do I post pictures on this dang thing? I can't figure out how to get my "assets" uploaded.

Ripper, if you want to go to the rall let's see what we can do. We have committed to getting Gumbun there and now just have to take care of hotel and maybe shuttle from airport...still working that out. Have you checked the Healthcare Now site for buses from MO. I wonder if you contact them if you could post your desire to do a ride share if there is no bus... so you could hook up with other going?
Let's work on it. We would love to have you there representin us!

You might have to upload them to a third party server first, Ripper. I use this one but there are others.

Okay folks I have to share the following email I just got from Gumbun as it made me cry...
I feel very confident that once the video hits Monday morning, there will be ample funds to send more people.
I've been playing guitar since I was 12 years old. Was still sick when I started learning. I have a great guitar that I love and I just put it on Craigslist to sell. I am going to put it on eBay right before I launch the video. I am going to let people know how great it is that you all did this wonderful thing and that I want to help bring others to stand up with me. I am going to use the proceeds from the sale of my favorite material possession to pay for my own hotel. I am going to ask people to donate and I am hoping that we get enough to send as many people as possible.
I haven't even tapped in to my pool yet. I am going to launch it on my facebook, so I know all of my friends and family who can will donate. Most of them do not even know I am filing for bankruptcy or struggling, so this is a huge coming out for me.
I'm on track for a Monday morning launch.
The flights are perfect and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making that happen.
Are you able to come if we get the funds?
July 19, 2009 12:35 PM | Reply | Permalink
And this was my reply...
I wasn't going to try to come because I considered it my duty to work. But I work for myself and could work around it and attend.
So, yes, if we end up with considerable abundance and those who should be a priority are covered, I would attend. My initial thoughts were like others to combine my small contribution with those of others to use sending someone to represent me to the rally... better than doing nothing at all. I do not have the funds to attend at all though and consider people like you and Ripper much more of a priority.
Being a singer and performer myself I wish you would 'not' sell your guitar but I appreciate what a gesture that is. I would rather we tried the fundraising first and you bring your guitar next year when we all meet up in Chicago for the first annual TPM meet up that LisB is working on.
Let's see what we can accomplish with the fundraising and let's get lots of creative juices going on how we can have a big impact at the rally. It would be nice to donate some money to the CT bus people so that they could bring some folks to the rally who cannot afford it as well.
Glad your okay with the flights... let's hold off on the guitar, please:)
Love & Blessings,
Synch

Yes, Gumbun, don't sell the guitar. I sold mine years ago out of need and was never financially able to replace it. I miss it a lot (even though I'm not physically able to play anymore). Don't do it!

I'll put in a donation in a bit.
And as an occasional player myself, please, Gumbun, keep your instrument. Parting with it is sending a little piece of your soul away.

You and your guitar, Gumbun, NEED each other!!!!
Don't do it.
July 19, 2009 1:47 PM | Reply | Permalink
It is enough to know you would give it, but keep it. You would do better with it playing a piece on your video then abandoning it and all the unwritten songs and music it could give to the us, all of us. We already know what we can do with our collective power/money. Any day you read dickday is an example of that. We helped him in an hour of need with a computer many months ago. From a purely Return On Investment (ROI) standpoint, we are millionaires. The ROI is phenomenal! Let's just keep that guitar in your hands and consider it a source of our future ROI. We know you will give us more with it then you ever could with it's departure. really, don't think of us as generous. We're happy to recieve any future contributions you may make. We're greedy that way. :-{)>

Do not sell your guitar, Gumbun. I don't know who you are....I have been away from home while this was all transpiring....but, PLEASE DO NOT SELL YOUR GUITAR.
Remember....everything equals out in the end.
And ya know, if it doesn't...you'll still have a guitar and I reckon we are all very okay with that.
:o)
