At this point, expectations are so low for Sarah Palin that she is sure to blow them out of the water. Just showing general competence as a politician who can deliver a stump speech and stay on message will be seen by the media as proof that she has undiscovered talents. Those talents are, of course, not undiscovered since she is recognized as a popular politician in her home state and she is by all accounts a smart woman; but that will not stop the news channels from making it the new story line within which to frame their reporting. She may not have extensive experience on national or international issues but she will no doubt be able to parrot the talking points as well as McCain does, and the campaign will make sure to script her appearances very carefully. Watch for the swing in the media story line. To counter this inevitable swing, the Democrats need to create a new way to frame Ms Palin's experience. I would suggest that linking her more closely to the oil industry is probably an accurate and productive line of attack. In Alaska last year, non oil related taxes accounted for less than 10% of their revenue. Being the govenor of Alaska is good experience if you are going to be the Emir of Dubai, it doesn't prepare you to deal with the tough economic choices the next president will have to make.
