New Honduran Chancellor on Obama: ¡Ese negrito que no sabe nada de nada!
¡Ese negrito que no sabe nada de nada! Probably the best translation is "That black boy who knows nothing about anything." But you can decide for yourselves in the "Update" at this link.
Insults slung to El Salvador and Spanish Premier Zapatero also. Sheesh, it's psudo-Honduras againis the world. What the hell are they planning?

My best guess, Neoboho, is that this is part of the reconstitution of the old "Treble Entendre" alliance from 19th Century Europe.
In this case, Honduras' role parallels that of Germany, North Korea will line up in the Italian formation, and the pivotal role of Austria-Hungary will almost certainly be played by... Sarah Palin.
I believe this arrangement clarifies a number of the otherwise inexplicable decisions of recent days.
(Note: Whether Sanford's recent move was an attempt to bring Argentina onboard is a question outside my field of expertise.)

Treble or double, quinn's white-bread Eurocentrism has scrambled his wits again, or he wouldn't be raving about some distant Anglo-Frankish-Rooshican Alliance while obvious analogies with the War of the Triple Alliance get lost in the porridge.
Honduras is the new Paraguay!
Wake up and smell the ceviche!

Quinn: Isn't it Triple Entente? Germany, Austria and Italy as the Triple Alliance? OK,OK, I have lost my sense of humor and, in consequence, have become a spoilsport at the festivities.
But I did like the idea that Palin might play the "pivotal role of Austria/Hungary."

Whatever their plans, they seem pretty adamant not to roll over and let Zelaya import a Chavez/Castro model of despotism into Honduras. They may be embracing another sort of despotism - but Chavez' attempt to shape Honduras appears to be dead.
Really, the end game seems pretty simple: they only have to hold out for 3 months until scheduled elections are held. Then, what basis will the world have to refuse recognition of a fully elected government? And somewhere around mid-August they can start to assert that the USA and Venezuela are trying to tamper with the election campaign.
This wasn't really a military coup. In a real military coup a big part of the struggle is wresting power from the military junta who just took over the country. They generally have to be coerced into agreeing to ever hold elections. This "coup" already has a ending mechanism in place with November elections. Contrast this to Myanmar where they *might* finally hold elections in 2010.
My guess is the rhetoric was geared to stir up nationalist sentiment. It's similar to Chavez calling Obama a "poor ignoramus" on May 22 of this year (and far more brutal comments about Bush in times past) to stir up support for himself in Venezuela. For Honduras, it's a low consequence game because the whole government is temporary and scheduled to be replaced in less than a year anyhow.

You might want to take a look at the Madagascar Coup from last winter. It is very similar to the Honduran coup in many ways. But importantly, the new government did not hold scheduled elections. We really don't know if Micheletti will allow elections in November. My sense is that there will be civil war in the country, and elections will be put on hold indefinitely.

Politics in Latin America is more intelligible by looking at the racial conflict as well as the cultural and economic conflicts. The fact that there has been a lot of racial mixture over the centuries does not prevent racial conflicts between whites and native americans, with blacks and various asians playing a role in some countries.

Whatever it is, I bet they have piqued the interest of the likes of Oliver Stone et. al. with some of these lines. :-) Drama queens?

The Coup party and supporters remind me of that underground community in "A Boy and his Dog." But don't you think maybe it's Tarantino who's checking it out: "Kill Mel" No? Then how about Spike Lee: "Mo' Better Coups"?
