Sen. Edward Kennedy R.I.P.
I just heard the news on MSNBC. Sad. Truly, an end of an era.
My condolences to his family and friends.
.
Please no mean-spirited taunts or snarky comments.
If you think this isn't something to mourn, just refrain from posting.

It is truly an end to an era. I am not much into singing anyone's praises but I can say that Sen. Kennedy helped secure a legacy especially with American's with disabilities.

oH jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez I just confirmed it.
I loved this man.
Would he have the faintest idea who the idiot in his pajammas was? No
Have I ever met the man? no
I am overcome with a sadness that I cannot describe.
He fought for the right, the just, the America I dreamed of. His brothers did not have the four decades of fight he had in him.
Damn. I loved a man I never met, I never saw in person. A personification of everything I believe in this country.
I shall ponder this.

Let's remember:
Spoiled child
Thrown out of Harvard for cheating
Playboy
Never worked a real job in his life
Chappaquiddick
Negligent Homicide
Cheating on his wife multiple times
Hurt Jimmy Carter in 1980 for selfish reasons and helped allow Ronald Reagan to begin the mess that this country has become.
William Kennedy Smith and the blue dot
Had to excuse himself from Clarence Thomas hearings
Selfishly wouldn't step down from his seat when diagnosed with a life ending disease. Now the good people of MA are screwed and the Democrats lost a key vote.
This is a man who liberals would dismiss as a privileged scum who was a misogynist. Except his last name was Kennedy.
Why not ask the Kopechne family how they feel about Ted Kennedy?
Want to clean up US politics? Let's get rid of the Kennedys and the Bushes and all the rest of the royalty in this country. And thanks for helping to elect Ronald Reagan. With friends like you, Ted, who needs Repuglicans?
Cry me a river, people. Buh-bye, Ted. Say "hi" to Mary Jo for all of us. Assuming you ended up in the same place.

Sen. Kennedy would have spoken better of you and meant it despite your needy, black heart.

How disrespectful to the person who posted this.
He requested no comments like this be posted.
Your doing this truly highlights your failings and flaws much more so than any of Sen. Kennedy.
Shame on you. Not the time or place for this type of denigration and disrespect.
Go away now and don't come back.
My apologies to Mr. Smith who I commend for this post.

Aunt Sam, nadablind has written exactly 5 comments - ever - and all of them are comments of the sort posted here on other Sen. Kennedy blogs within TPM. nadablind appears to be the unfortunate owner of a very narrow, childish mind. Your advice was just right.

Nadablind, I asked for civility in the comments because when I heard the news and wanted to post something for people to comment on Sen. Kennedy's passing, I feared that the political discourse in our country is now at such an appallingly low level, that people like you would see this moment as something to jeer at, taunt and continue the hateful spewing of partisan rhetoric. The snark factor is one of the ills of society today, imo.
Who amongst us is without fault? Treating this as an opportunity to get in a few last licks is truly pathetic.
If you disliked the man, fine. If you thought ill of him, I have no problem with that. It's your opinion. But frankly, what's the point of being mean-spirited when a man has died? The battle of ideas is over.
Do not think ill of the dead, for all of us, have failed in some way. None of us are the moral paragons we strive to be in our better moments. None of us are without shortcoings and failings.
Most of us, fortunately, never have to have our private failings and errors in judgment made public. We can feel superior because our failings stay mostly unexamined and unknown, or, if known, known only by those few who are closest to us, not the entire world. Our lapses in judgment are never used by our enemies to villify and demonize us.
So, please, I will again ask everyone to keep the ill you may wish to speak to yourself when amongst those that do not share your opinion.

The saddest part of all is that he didn't live to see universal health care...Perhaps (perversely) his passing will get our "leaders" off their behinds and get them moving...
I can't allow myself the comfort of tears right now...duty calls. We'll lift a glass in chat tonite?

Still,
Ted Kennedy was a man of faith, hope and love. I think he read the wind, saw beyond today's horizon, knew the dream would not die, and that he could with a happy heart.

I hope you are right, Rip...I believe he spent a large portion of his life trying to atone for past mistakes. Universal health care was his passion. A pretty amazing thing for a man with so much. Hopefully, as we all trek down memory lane in the next few days, many who have pulled themselves into their comfortable shells will come out with a new enthusiasm for helping those who (for wahtever reasons) cannot help themselves.

Countless millions around the world mourn for this man. I count myself among them and all my family too. What has been lost can never be replaced though we pray someone will come forward to carry the standard now that our standard bearer has fallen. We mourn with great affections for him as a human being and as a leader, with gratitude for the lonely fights he fought on behalf of those whose names will never be known to history and whose lives will not be counted as influential. We mourn the loss of someone who we revered and loved because he chose to act with love and compassion in the very best tradition of his family, his faith and his country. The admiration of those who mourn Senator Kennedy is not momentary but will last as long as we, and our memories, live.

Senator Robert Byrd just asked for the health care reform bill to be named for him. Goodbye, dear Ted; we wish you God-speed, and we extend our gratitude for all the ways you helped the people of this country.
And God Bless you for trying even
to be Orrin Hatch's friend to get things done!
You were Our Lion!

RIP Senator Kennedy. You will be sorely missed every day. But those of us who remain here, and share the same vision for a great America with you, will never stop fighting just like you never stopped.

Probably the politician with the biggest heart in my lifetime. I still have great hopes that Obama will follow his lead, in using his office to help people, rather than promote / profit himself, as far to many politicians do!

I just watched Joe Biden's very moving tribute to Teddy. The most important things he said, I think were: He was never petty. He was never defeatist."
Aren't just those two true and simple sentences a good legacy to leave us right now?
