Pete Seeger was there ...
There is a photo on the Wikipedia page for Pete Seeger, who'll be 90 this year. It shows him singing for Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1940's. Today he was up on stage with Bruce Springsteen, leading the crowd in singing Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land ..."
Talk about a witness to history ... As a longtime fan, t was nice to see him there.
After the song had ended, he hustled quickly off the stage with everyone else at a speed that, for someone his age, was amazing.

Migwetch (thanks)for this. I love Pete Seeger, admire him for his activism. One of my favorite tunes to hum is 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone.'
It made me :o) to learn he's up there on stage still singing.

The sweetest part was that he sang all of the verses, including the subversive ones don't teach in school. My partner and I were cracking up as he kept on going with a smile on his face. What a joy.

Migwetch for the link, LisB. When I traveled there I noticed it was for the 2008 NPP. I signed it anyway hoping it will translate into the 2009 NPP. I also noticed the Pete Seeger Nobel Peace Prize petition was the top signature getter of the day so far.

Pete Seeger - one of my favorite humans!

I went to some big outdoor festival, somewhere out in the sticks in Pennsylvania, on the Fourth of July back in the early 80s. Pete Seeger was one of the performers. I will never forget sitting in the grass in the late evening listening to Pete sing "This Land is Your Land". It was a deeply primal-feeling American experience, in the best possible sense. And followed by fireworks!
When my son was a little boy, we oftened listened to cassettes of Pete's songs. I have many, many happy memories of listening and singing along to "Abiyoyo", "Sam the Whaler", "Mary Had a Baby" and so many more with my son and my wife. Those songs did so much to enrich and gladden our lives! I love that man.

Hey, you chickenshit worm, I see from your profile (an endless list of vicious comments), that you have not posted even ONCE. Instead of flitting into and shitting on every thread on the block, how about putting up some of your own brilliant thoughts for us to read and discuss?
