Bernie Madoff's "Secret" Controller, Enrica Cotellessa Pitz - NYC Takes Care of Its Own
Read about Enrica Cotellessa Pitz, long time Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities Inc. controller, in Bloomberg News, the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times?
Enrica Pitz is listed as Bernie's controller in Plunkett's 2006 Investments & Securities Industries Almanac so everyone on Wall Street knows who she is.
Pitz's tribute to Sister Marguerite Torre published in the New York Daily News in September 2007 goes a long way to explaining why Pitz has been able to keep her name out of the news.
Sister Marguerite Torre was the principal at the Blessed Virgin Mary Elementary School in Ozone Park, Queens.
More importantly, Sister Marguerite is Joe Torre's sister. Joe Torre, of course, was the long time manager of the New York Yankees and is now coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ozone Park is probably best known as the home of John Gott's social club. It is just north of Howard Beach where I think Frank Dipascali was originally from.
There is a lot more to the Bernie Madoff scandal but if you're not rich and influential, you probably won't hear about it. If you have a 401(k), think long and hard about how Wall Street keeps secrets.

Mrs P-- i have lexis nexis and so am happy to help with any searches you may need for publication. also, i don't get the tie-in here. whats the connection with Enrica's tribute and her staying out of the news? thanks in advance, EA

ErinA, Thanks for the lex-nex offer. I don't know if you have access to the l-n corporate database but if you do, I am curious as to what business name Bernard Madoff operated under before 2000.
According to the NYS secretary of state database, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC was only registered in 2000. From what I've read, both the trading and the investment arms of the Madoff business operated under this name.
The only Madoff-related entities registered before 2000 in NYS were Madoff Technologies, L.L.C. and the Madoff Family Foundation.
I'm skeptical the Madoff scandal unfolded the way the papers said it did. If Bernie knew he had to pull the plug, he would have consulted with his attorney first. I would think his attorney would have advised him to let the SEC and the heads of the stock exchange know in advance to stave off panic trading.
The fact that the Madoff scandal broke before the holiday break lends even more support to my theory that the Madoff "expose" was prearranged and timed to limit the fallout from a "NYC stockbroker gone bad" scandal.
I think hiring Marc Mukasey to represent him was a very sophisticated move on Frank Dipascali's part. (Frank Dipascali has been identified as the Madoff employee who handled the investment customer accounts.)
Enrica Cotellessa-Pitz is obviously very close to Joe Torre's sister, Sister Marguerite. Either the Catholic Church or Joe Torre could have asked the NYC papers to leave Pitz out of the news for now.
Since I first posted about Enrica Cotellessa-Pitz, I learned there is an award-winning Catholic elementary school principal named Linda Cotellessa-Freebes in Queens Village, not far from Ozone Park.
I don't know if Linda Cotellessa-Freebes is related to Enrica Cotellessa-Pitz. Freebes is about 60 years old and Pitz is about 50.
The FBI will be looking into whether Enrica and her relatives were inordinately successful in the stock market. If Pitz was sharing stock tips with her friends and family, the jig will be up soon.
Then again, Enrica Cotellessa-Pitz could be cooperating with the FBI in exchange for keeping her name out of the news.
Odd that no one else is speculating about Cotellessa-Pitz in the blogs.

Erin - you don't get the tie-in because there is none. If you had a relative who lived in Ozone Park then you too would be guilty of 1) being in the mob and 2) being an accomplice to Bernie Madoff
