As Goes the OMB...
So goes the nation. For those who are really in to the functioning of the federal government, the Office of Management & Budget is a place of subtle power and sheer anonymity. Now Government Executive is reporting that the Congressional Budget Office's Peter Orszag is likely to be tapped by President-Elect Obama to take over the OMB director job--a cabinet level position.

Peter Orszag will be a welcome figure there and this confirms Obama is getting very, very astute advice.
Orszag created his own blog while at CBO which I frequent often and those interested should visit and get a feel for his style: a very refreshing and wide-ranging view on government. I suppose we can credit the LSE for that!

Obama is putting together a pretty good team.

Let no one recommend this blog! I just scanned the rec list and there sitting prominently was Fly's mentioning among other things Orszag's elevation chance. Fly also included much of the information I included (including the delightful CBO blog) so my blog is definitely superfluous!
I'll try to make amendment by providing some content Fly may have overlooked or not felt terribly important:
Orszag's interest in retirement: See the Retirement Security Project Archive (a trove of Orszag-abilia)
http://www.retirementsecurityproject.org/search?keywords=Orszag
Orszag's interest in climate change: See Climate Change: An Agenda for Global Collective Action (with Stiglitz and Aldy as co-authors!)

I hope this makes partial amends for a redundant post.

There are certain things which characterize "good people." But especially a tender conscience and ability to apologize. If only we'd had someone like that the last 8 years.
You are one of the "good people," Lux!
What a joy that this place exists. And that we can learn so much from each other.
I must say I'm getting more and more thrilled by the Obama picks. Here's one. I know nothing of this person, except her current job:
Executive Director of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy
The word Constitution is music to my ears! "law and policy" combined with that! And what's she gonna do? "Staff Secretary." Wow!!!! Just wow!

Rec'd for the absolute humility and courtesy shown.
So rare these days.

You know, I wanted to do the same thing. And now I will. Over-ruling you, Lux. And for courtesy, I must recommend.

Thank you both! I am getting so careless--I got the news via Government Executive: its a good site to follow transition matters and other deep-in-the-bowels-of-the-bureaucracy type items. They had wonderful coverage of that fellow who got the license to export arms and who was only 23 or some such age, coverage of the appalling HUD leadership meltdown, coverage of the battles in Labor and other such nice gossip for fed govt groupies like myself. I have a network of government blogs I frequent and Orszag's was one of them since he got it up and running a while back. I can't recommend enough sites like his and Michael Stern's Point of Order, for technical discussions and analysis you will not find in any other venue.
I like Orszag, though he is far more a centrist than I, and I respect his intellectual gifts and his openness.
