King George Writes New Edict

Will somebody PLEASE take that man's pen away from him?!! He's written a new edict in the form of an executive order giving himself MORE POWER.

UPDATE: Some feel that this is a benign piece of paper that really doesn't change what is already being done and is only applicable in instances where there are "threats of violence." Well, here's another take on it. This administration has trotted out too many executive orders through Congress that, on the surface, look innocent. But so do wolves in sheep's clothing, as that old phrase warns. Join a growing movement of people who are preparing to send a message to Congress and media "watchdogs" to take action to protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find that, due to the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States posed by acts of violence threatening the peace and stability of Iraq and undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq and to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, it is in the interests of the United States to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303 of May 22, 2003, and expanded in Executive Order 13315 of August 28, 2003, and relied upon for additional steps taken in Executive Order 13350 of July 29, 2004, and Executive Order 13364 of November 29, 2004. I hereby order: .... read the rest of his abuse here.

I'm heading out to buy some orange paint ... here's why.

I agree that it is an unreasonable extension of power, but not as bad as I had heard in the first reports. This appears to require some association with violence, rather than mere reconstruction.

It is still a matter of curiosity whether his polyps were larval neocons, or perhaps part of his thinking apparatus.

Read the whole thing? Acts of violence are distinguished in it, by being subject to determination by Cabinet Secretary that a suspect is likely to commit such. This  is sufficient to incarcerate that person.

On providing assistance, the language might be open to interpretation, if it were a normal law, but an order just gets used first, and argued over later if at all. Language like this---"...undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people..." is pretty broad.

How about "The prohibitions in subsection (a) of this section include, but are not limited to, (i) the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order, and (ii) the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person."

You can't even have someone pay your legal bills?

Not surprising. Bush & Company have hundreds of people in prison of whom he believes not only don't need a lawyer, they don't need a hearing or trial!

Who's next? You? Me? And what types of "acts of violence?" Hurling insults?

WHY DOES HE NEED THIS POWER NOW?

Now, if he wants to use this against Halliburton, well, that would be OK in my book.
