How do you hit Fox Advertisers? Ideas please!
I don't think the stupidity will stop until the people with money stop paying Fox News for advertising.
The question is, how do you organize to hit the advertisers in the wallet? If a few million people stopped buying products, would they notice?
I don't have any experience with this kind of thing, but I have the motivation. Please give me some good ideas if you have them.

Head on over to KOS. More and more advertisers are pulling out of Glenn Beck.

Thanks for that. I went to colorofchange and looked at the list of advertisers, and I sent many of them e-mail stating my intention to boycott and why. Some of them make it easier than others to contact.

Beck's a good start, but I want the whole network to go down.

Hard to take down the #1 rated. So ilike first you kill off Beck, then you move onto the next show and the next. You need to win battles before you declare you've won the war.

First off, individually written letters, both to the public affairs/relations/branding departments, and - if you can find their names - individual board members. Individually written letters carry a lot of weight with company boards and "image" folks. The usual presumption is ten people feeling that way for every letter received.
Be clear, simple, and direct to the point. Do not rant. Simply tell them you will not purchase their products or use their services, and that you will advocate this for others as well. Tell them why, again, simply. "You sponsor Fox News programming."
If you can isolate the advertisers on particular daypart shows, such as that lunatic Beck, Billo, or others, so much the better.
And do not - repeat - do not forget to contact the ad agencies as well.
There will be a lot of Googling involved, good luck with that. Maybe post a list here once you get it organized?

Do you know an individual who has succeeded in getting an advertiser to withdraw support for a program, OG? I know people who tried it during the campaign and were told by at least one fox sponsor (a cruise line) to butt out. They were advertising where their potential targets were and didn't have any intention of leaving the buried treasure there. The other advertisers just said no politely.
I am very impressed with the results of the ColorofChange.org and haven't heard of any other success stories.

You want to hit the owner also. From CNBC:
News Corp Takes MySpace Charge, Murdoch Wants to Charge for Content
10:51 AM, August 6, 2009 | Source: cnbc.com |
News Corp suffered from the economic downturn as expected, with revenue dropping to $7.67 billion. But what really hurt NewsCorp's quarter was $680 million in impairment and operating charges, mostly at MySpace's division, Fox Interactive Media.

The Evangelicals organized and did this in the late 80's and early 90's. The key is to organize and coordinate efforts so that large numbers of people are boycotting products at the same time.
One problem may be that advertisers will cover their bases by placing ads with Fox and MSNBC. Still, a no tolerance rule should be in place with respect to Fox.

Whereas it is an American freedom to invoke your right of freedom of speech or freedom of the press, it is a subversion of our democracy when a network is intentionally misleading the public or fanning the flames of division and intolerance. Therefore, I will continue to uphold the right of anyone to exercise their right of freedom of speech, however, I will exercise my privilege of boycotting advertisers which support those who threaten the stability of my country.

I suggest that we campaign to get people to cancel their cable television. They cost would be better spent on movies and books.
And we start figuring out how to get the least biased news possible and throw our money behind it.

Interesting the flash advertising I just saw here for rivastigmine ((S)-N-Ethyl- N-methyl- 3-[1-(dimethylamino)ethyl]- phenyl carbamate). Carbamates are a class of pesticides. Talk about death panels for granny.

Glad you asked: ColorOfChange.org has a campaign going to get advertisers to yank their commercials - Gieco just pulled their ads.
Sign the petition at: http://colorofchange.org/beck/
It appears to be having some effect. Aside from Geico, four other businesses have pulled ads from Glenn Beck's show.

Ah, letter writing campaign. I guess that would work, too.
I was thinking something more like an RPG...

Speaking of Fox/ Glenn Beck and all the rascism stuff... Didnt Obama sit in a church for 20 years run by a racist preacher that spewed hate speech? Would you sit in a church for 20 years run by a preacher that declared on a routine basis his hatred for blacks? Isn't it odd that Obama declared he knew "nothing" about the facts in the arrest case in Cambridge, Mass but his first, knee-jerk reaction was to accuse the white cop of doing something stupid? These are among the many actions by Obama to what Glenn Beck was referring to.
With regard the healthcare debate. Why do progressives want a government-run...oh wait...public option insurance plan? Do you honestly believe the GOP will never be in the White House again? Or run Congress? Do you want Karl Rove appointing the commissioner that is created in HR 3200 that will decide what benefits you will and will not have?
Meanwhile, I will watch Fox's ratings go up, up, and up while the rest of cable news tanks.
