The Joe Liberman Conundrum

Many in the liberal blog-o-sphere have questioned the mild manner in which the current senate leadership has handeld joe "the traitor" Lieberman. We al agreed the man should be in some way punished for his betrayal, but one must agree the leadership made the right choice. Dems dind't lose their majority status and Obama didn't get hurt by Lieberman's support of McCain. Lieberman's "atack dog" skills turned out to be more leg humping then pitbull...

But leaving Lieberman in the caucus had one nasty side effect, as the power of the super mejority seems within grasph our "friend" lieberman might find himself to be valuable in January again. When he does fiend himself in that position look out for the leadership putting power above priciple and letting Lieberman retain his current positions and to vote with the republicans as he pleases.

There are  ways you can help prevent this from happening: donate donate donate to dem chalengers in the senate!  Not only Obama needs your coin! We need 61 otherwise Lieberman might just retain his powers and live to backstab us another day.

I think it would be best for the Senate democratic leadership to treat Lieberman magnanimously after the election. Give him the chair of a committee and other committee assignments which have nothing even remotely to do with national security, foreign policy, the military, or intelligence.

It is unlikely that the democrats will reach sixty in the Senate so it will be important to try to keep him in the caucus.
