Are the bleeding heart liberals actually DOING anything?
There are so many angry people on this blog who are pissed at a lot of things. They spend a lot of time "blogging" but are they actually spending time DOING anything? Maybe volunteering at a food bank? Or writing letters to congress?
Just thought I would ask. I hope people aren't wasting all their energy just typing and yelling at me.

But Bill, we are all getting PAID to yell at you on this blog. It's part of the vast left-wing conspiracy. Don't your overlords pay you to be here doing the same? You think we do this for free?

You rat bastid astral, you know we weren't to say anything 'bout that. And you with that $5/hour raise the boss gave you last month. I oughta report you.

Bill, I concur with all except your headline. Why didn't you post for all here, not just (to use your term) 'bleeding heart liberals'?
Just thought I would ask YOU this.

You're both mixing words. And neither of you answered my question if you're actually trying to make a difference anywhere but on a website.

You didn't answer my query.
Okay, being in a rural small town there is no soup kitchen or other such forum to volunteer. So, I do other things:
I gave a free workshop on how to do Business Plans for those who have or are aspiring to have their own small business;
just sent off email to my state representative and to US Senator;
am confronting issue here of hiring foreign students instead of Americans for seasonal work;
just called one of my local assembly members to have her bring up latest info at assembly meeting about our Governor's stance on the stimilus bill (printed off and emailed factual documentation);
researching and putting forth facts that totally disprove the 'findings' as published of our Attorney General's office that our gas prices are not high because of any business collusion/gouging - lack of oversight (fuel prices here are a real burden here and the state does nothing to stop the unlawful business practices and
mailed in contribution (albiet small) to agency that helps homeless teenagers in our state.
And the list goes on....
Now, will you answer my query and by the way, what have you done?

What are you doing, Bill?
Bitching about bleeding heart liberals?
Pot? Meet Kettle.

I am a bleeding heart liberal, Bill. I am actually doing something. Not only do I read, blog and comment here at TPM, write letters to my congress critters, but I actually remove me arse from my chair, leave the house and volunteer in various ways in my community.
Thank you for your inquiry and I hope you are satisfied that at least one BHL isn't blowing hot gas.
Also, if I ever yelled at you, I apologize.

ack!
I know wot I am doing. I doubt Bill is. Openng your heart is good. Opening your wallet is good, too.
Now, take the next step.
I know you have flowerchild.

When I open my wallet, moths fly out. Just like in the old cartoons. :o)
It would be interesting if Bill could assure us that he isn't just sitting there in front of his PC bitching about us...that he is contributing in some way towards the good of his community. Don't have to tell us how or what, just that he is.

I want specifics, that's he's asking from others. And hmmm, where or where is Bill? No response since we queried him!
(Let me know if the trees hug you back.)

I'd say that winning the election and kicking all those g-damned Republicans back to where they came from was a pretty big accomplishment on our part.

Rather than detail my charitable activities, it might be a good idea to bring up a few actions that BHLs did and did not contribute to:
As a result of electing BHO President, the orders have been given for closing GITMO, an Iraq exit date has been set, funding for contraception has been restored to aid overseas and the focus on the Middle East has changed to one of diplomacy versus war, among other things.

Good job. Facts are facts!
Seashell, you're great.

Thank you, Aunt Sam!
Actually, most BHLs are great, I think. At least the ones here are.
Forgot to mention that I hug trees.
And water them. :-)
Also.

Your comment is one of the reasons that you're one of the few people I decided to follow, seashell. I know a kindred BHL when I see one.
Alas, I visit TPM infrequently, and the TPM Gods have not yet fixed the dashboard so it separates out the comments of those who I am following from the comments made in reply to me. Just wanted to let you know that until the Gods bless me with that little teeny fix, I'm going to stop following just about everyone except a couple of the paid commentators. I don't really know the proper etiquette about such things, but I wanted to say something so it's clear it has nothing to do with you yourself, seashell. :)

Thanks, Wordie. We've been fellow BHLs together for a long time now. :-) I wish you were here more often.
Do any of us have a dashboard where the ones we are following are separated from replies made to our own comments? But I agree, if you only come infrequently, any replies will be lost if you are also following others.
Keep in touch!

mcb, There are more than a few of us who are angry here right now. I'm angry that my 86 year old dad just lost about half of his savings due to the bullshit, smoke and mirrors deals on Wall Street, not to mention most of my younger friends as well. I don't say that because I'm worried about a diminishing inheritance, but because it affects the quality of life my dad will enjoy in his waning years of life. I'm angry that the same sharks who gamed the system in the first place appear to be continuing said gaming even after they lost their bets, and are relying on the goodwill of the American public to pick up the tab for them. On a final note to your 'post', (and calling it that stretches my definition as I believe I've put more thought into this response than you did into your three sentence blog. I've done all of the things you listed as well as regularly volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and donate to various charities. To further my bleeding heart liberal street cred, I find it hard not to give beggars and panhandlers some spare change, whether I think they'll spend it on booze or food. I don't think I've 'yelled' at you, (too much anyway). I do however, like to point out when you take your talking points from right 'leaning' sources such as the Cato Institute, and Drudge. So... tell us what charities you've volunteered for or donated to lately.

Is this really the ideological caricature you want to portray? What have the Rabid Right done to make this country a better place? How does complaining lead to solutions?
