BTW, the program is called President Obama's loan modification program. Our loan holder is Fannie Mae, through GMAC. The program requires 3 months of trial payments that must be made on time, and after that you are reviewed for a permanent modification, which in our case took about 2 weeks. Hope this makes sense.

Erica: I am not sure I can change the headline but good advice. The lender is GMAC, and I went from a 15 yr., 6% loan to a 24yr. loan. Our rate will be 2% for 5 years, then it goes up 1% per year until it reaches 5%, the cap. I have not doubt without President Obama proposing this program for current vs. late paying borrowers, we would not have had success. Thanks for the kind words!

BTW, I have been assured every time I have called that this will in o way affect our credit rating, good news.

Regarding foot in mouth.....Obey, I have decided it is a regular fallout of email, blogging, etc. What one writes, and how that is perceived by another can be miles apart. I know of two people who lost their jobs due to slights made in inter-office emails. Of course, politics played a huge part, but still, what one means vs. what a reader interprets is a strange thing. I think it is great, Libertine, that you made this post. This should be a fun place to express ourselves. I have been AWOL on TPM for a while as the flak can depress my whole day. On the flip side, there are some brilliant posts, replies, etc., which are very informative.
