TPM: the voice of priest pedophiles?

Not quite sure what to make of this.  TPM has provided a link to a story about an accused priest pedophile, Joseph Illo, who is so arrogant as to suggest Catholics voting for Obama have committed a mortal sin.  That Illo's comments are inconsistent with Catholic teachings as noted by his bishop is bad enough.  That TPM is promoting a pedophile's story is over the top.

To put my comment in context, altho an atheist I attempt to keep a balanced view of the Catholic church in which I was brought up. Besides its reactionary members there have also been heroic nuns -and Cardinals-in Central America who brought honor to the church at the cost of their own lives. And besides what I consider its harmful positions on e.g. abortion and stem cell research it has what I consider admirable ones on capital punishment and warfare.

It does both good and harm.

Writing from that position, two comments.

TPM's link was neither an endorsement nor an attack.Simply what seemed a fair report of something of interest to me and I suppose to many.

Second,Illo's innocent until proved guilty.

The existence of priests who practice pedophilia , and its cover up, certainly disgraced the church. Which it has, after too long a delay, acknowledged. But the fact Illo's been accused doesn't mean we should convict him in our own minds unless/until he has been convicted legally.

Until then it's not a factor to be considered by TPM .
