The downside of the Powell endorsement

There is a downside of the Powell endorsement of Obama.  Powell is a black man and the McCain campaign is focused on denigrating non-white Americans.   The Powell endorsement feeds into this narrative of Obama as nigger.  According to the McCain narrative, Powell is a nigger and, of course, he will endorse a nigger. Let's get real.  This campaign is all about race and racism.  It doesn't matter that the nigger candidate is the better candidate.  This campaign is all about not letting the niggers have any political power.

Even my most conservative southern cousins would never talk about Powell like that. I don't doubt, however, that somewhere in the mountains of Idaho, a bunch of guys with illegal firearms are discussing this very topic, with a similar vocabulary.

I don't believe so. Not at all. Powell is a well respected man on the right. Not only that, he is a decorated General in our Armed Forces. Good patriotic Americans do not denigrate generals, period. Plus, they loved to put Powell on a pedestal "See, we're not racists". There is no way the McCain campaign could pull that line of attack off. Not even in a whisper campaign.

Plus with his appearance on MTP and especially his presser afterwards, there can be no doubt the man is conservative yet brilliant. He is probably embodies what many conservative envision themselves to be, before they were hijacked by the neocons and fundies.

Check out my comment to the latest McCain attack that "Obama is a socialist" and Powell's response.
