Here's one little Health Care victory

Some of you may have heard about Congresswoman Judy Biggert's (IL-13) straw poll on health care. She put it up on her website Friday asking "Do you support the health care proposal that's in the House right now?" This was accompanied by her usual Friday email newsletter to her supporters where she blathered about "reform, not revolution" and asked people to come give their opinion. I'm sure she was certain that voters from all over would come to her website and tell her we like paying double what the rest of the world pays for the 37th best medical care.

Well it didn't quite work out that way. By the time I saw the poll late Friday afternoon "YES" was winning with 79.1% of the vote. All weekend long "YES" held a double digit lead. Oh there was a time on Saturday where it sank to 42+% and inexplicably "Don't Know/No opinion/What's my name again?" went from 0% to about 20% in a couple of hours, proving I guess you can lead a Republican precinct committeeman to water but you can't make him click on something that's truly not in his best interests like her position on health care reform.

So anyway I imagine it wasn't a happy start to the week when Judy and her minions came into the office this morning and got a look at the results. The final tally when they yanked it down about 9am Monday was 69.4 for "YES",  21% for "NO" and 9.6% for "What was the question again?"

Biggert bragged all week about another little straw poll she took over phone during her teletown conference call last Monday night but we'd like her to publicize this one. She got  59% of the vote for "NO" on the phone poll from folks who could stand listening to her race baiting, immigrant bashing, weird "England has such awful health care one of my daughters and her family have chosen to live there for 11 years" banter with some of her self deluded sycophants all the way through. At one point a caller had to tell her where she could look up the bill on the net and that the number is HR 3200. I especially liked the part where she complained she didn't have enough time to work on the bill after she admitted that the House was in session, at that moment, working on the bill.

So anyway we'd like folks to call Mrs. Biggert at either (or both) of her offices, and fax her too, and tell her to support real health care reform with a public option strong enough to get her health insurance lobbyist daughter fired. If you want to give her receptionist apoplexy say the words "single payer". And while you're at it ask her real nicely to put the results of the website straw poll back up so everybody can see just how out of touch she really is. You can reach her here:

Thanks. I needed some good news, having not cooled down about NPR's Morning edition and here it is noon already. Do I have to call her Honorable if I do write her? (grin).

The Kyl interview?

Call her what ever you want amike. What was on NPR's morning edition? I missed it.

Back to back "health" stories. First a story about the democrats attacking insurance companies with the implication that "naughty naughty liberals" were at fault here. An industry representative got the last word, of course. That was followed immediately by one of the fluffiest interviews of Senator Kyl that I have ever had the displeasure to hear. My little blog Stuck with NPR is about it.

Thanks amike. I'll check it out.

Another bit of good news and possible template for thwarting the disrupters - check out this Daily Kos post about progressive Dems successfully countering tea-bagging shouters at a townhall event:

That's nice work by that guy, especially his little ground rules speech. Wingnuts like their ancient Greeks. Remember the 300!!! Thanks for sharing with us. I'm passing it along to other local organizers.

Sometimes the good guy wins. ha

Sometimes the good side wins.

Thanks for letting us participate.

I hope TPM contacts her for comment about poll results! Then publishes same (heh heh).

Thanks Mark - keep us posted please.

so she didn't like the results of the poll so she took them down?

I'm confused. Is that really fair?

user-pic

Of course Gary. What isn't fair to her is asking her to vote for something that'll get her in trouble with her campaign contributors. She's a money con from way back.
