Palin's "panic" announcement on deadsville weekend sure had convenient timing!
The hyperventilating revelation seemed rushed by some urgent impulse, but certainly was well-timed.
I'm overseas, but I think the point is valid: MSNBC shows took the day off Friday. No Hardball, no Countdown, no Rachel. On CNN even Saturday, "Political Mann" ran 24 hours after the fact, and there's no mention, not a peep. *Their* political coverage is about how she's maybe a better runner than Obama. Everywhere the coverage is light because, frankly, the reporters are at the beach.
We can see that the maxim that you announce bad news on a Friday evening is several fold more significant, if the Friday happens to be the beginning of the weekend of the Fourth.
UPDATE: It will be interesting if the Sunday news shows are significantly better. I bet it will be a weak showing. I remember one time watching Meet the Press on a Sunday and they made a big deal of how they were excited that it was going to be Thanksgiving; i.e., they had taped it the previous Wednesday. VERY lame despite their holiday toasts and yucks; looked like a bunch of twits.
LATER UPDATE: Did I mention Meet the Press? This is really embarrassing: "Programming note for this Sunday: Meet the Press will not air due to NBC's coverage of Wimbledon."

He who knows something' or nothin'?.
Today, John McCain, the man who catapulted her into fame:
"I have the greatest respect and affection for Sarah, Todd, and their family. I was deeply honored to have her as my running mate and believe she will continue to play an important leadership role in the Republican party and our nation."

Yeah, I think we've all been "honored" by the whole tawdry thing.
Nice to hear from John "I used to be respected" McCain; always a pleasure.

I wouldn't put much stock into those words, Aunt Sam. It would make a very weak soup.

Yeah, it's empty words and he had to put out something I suppose, but even if you credit it -- so what? John McCain *believes* something? I should care?
I remember when he believed ("know" was actually his outrageous/bizarre choice of verb) that he spoke for every one of us when he said we are all Georgians. Fricking buffoon.

yes, and when their is the situation in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, MJ's death, Sanford's Fiasco, the healthcare debacle, Franken's win... all drawing our attention before the 4th along with the fact that it's a big 'vacation' weekend... the timing was clearly perfect.

With Michael Jackson, I mean, there are little time periods granted Palin on CNN. Of course I would never watch Fox.
But you have an intriguing perspective here.

There's all sorts of vapid crap on CNN International, though, not just Michael. It's just that it's vapid crap that they programmed before they head off for the beach.
I don't think it's merely intriguing, my good buddy, it's simply the truth. They have nobody on the story. Actually, today CNN should have "Late Edition" and that may be less pre-recorded than the the Sunday network shows. We'll see.

What else what McCain going to say? "Gee, I guess everyone was right; this woman was a loose cannon all along -- to think, I wanted her a heartbeat away from me as President --- my bad!"
No Meet the Press? Well, Wimbledon is more newsworthy and deep than that ridiculous show anyway, but then so would be PeeWee's Playhouse if it were still showing.

"When you hear the secret word, scream real loud!" PeeWee's Playhouse is still showing but not they call it Fox News.

Well he might have said politely,
"It's the view of some that, through my supposed oafishness [stupid smile for "laugh line"], I risked getting us into World War 3. My staff and I, having looked at it, believe that's a pretty unlikely scenario -- less than 50% in the worst case.
I still strongly believe that Governor Palin is a fighter, and that she would have shaken up Washington by standing for things she believes in, like a strong future for every Alaskan, just for starters."
No?

"*Their* political coverage is about how she's maybe a better runner than Obama."
With her "quit now" in order to "succeed later" philosophy; should she be considered the "Rosie Ruiz" of politics?

This is a good one, although I didn't who Rosie Ruiz was...
This, from Wikipedia:
"Rosie Ruiz Vivas (born 1953, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban American who on April 21, 1980 ostensibly came in as the first place female competitor in the 84th Boston Marathon, but was later stripped of her title when it was found that she had cheated.
Ruiz appeared to complete the marathon with a record time of 2:31:56. Race officials later determined that she had not run the entire 26.2-mile course but instead had registered for the race and later jumped in from the crowd and sprinted to the finish.
There was suspicion from the beginning, as no one had seen her running earlier in the race, she did not appear in videotape footage, and some members of the crowd reported witnessing her run into the race in the last mile. Some female competitors thought it was odd when, asked what she had noticed about Wellesley while running through it, she did not mention the students of Wellesley College, who traditionally loudly cheer the first women runners as they pass the campus. In addition, her time of 2:31:56 was an unusual improvement, more than 25 minutes ahead of her [also bogus - O.T.] reported time in the New York City Marathon six months earlier."
The entire Wiki entry is diverting and worth one's time, BTW. Thanks for educating me, jonnienohand! ;)
