It keeps starting earlier
Glenn Thrush is reporting that Ensign's appearance in Iowa is the more-or-less kickoff to a Presidential campaign. In 2009? Is it just me or does that seem a tad early? I know there are a great many politicians who are informally keeping their name in the spotlight (Gingrich, Palin, Rommney), but this is a strange time to be pushing for a nomination in 2012 against a President who has an incredibly high popularity level right now.

In other news, 2056 Democratic presidential primary candidate Esteban Brandeis Jackson Jones made his first campaign visit to Iowa in utero today where he appeared at Sen. Tom Harkin's annual get-together. Although Jones did not speak to the crowd gathered, he did pose for numerous pictures with his mother and the senator. Jones reports raising about $1000 of the estimated $2 billion it will take to win the nomination.
It gets earlier and earlier...

Sad, but true...You win an election and immediately put together your team to start governing while concurrently starting your reelection campaign. Do the terms need to be longer, or would that just lengthen the campaign time even further?
