Fox Football Coverage
OK, I get up this morning with a medium sized hang-over, [First in about a month, don't send for help], I scan the couple of sights I follow on the internet, and I review the comments I have made hoping I made some sense the night before and also hoping I didn't embarrass myself or insult any of the many on-line people I have come to admire and respect. Then I turn on the TV to see which games will be televised. I am a big Cowboy fan and watch some of the other games.
So, what do I see? The damned pre-game bs show on the Fox channel that are on as I write have a complete military theme. Jimmy Johnson and the others have on Combat fatigues. Each representing a different branch. A live audience that is apparently all, or at least mostly, military. Video clips of soldiers in Afghanistan telling what a wonderful thing we are doing there.
This might settle down in my addled brain and I might come to understand just why I am pissed off by this after it stews for a while. If it wasn't Sunday I might go get a bottle of bourbon to help clear my mind.

Blue Laws suck, don't they?
I think what is stuck in your craw is the exploitation. Sounds over the top to me.

Well, I jumped the gun a bit. They are in Afghanistan so it's been in the works for a while, they didn't just go to the military ra ra themein reaction to the events at Ft Hood. I guess it is about Veterans Day. Still, I wanted to watch football, not propaganda.
Also, it's Fox, if I'm watching that channel I'm expected to make knee-jerk reactions, right?

i usually do not watch football, but my hospital roomie had it on this morning. i too, was not awestruck. It was fairly predictable. Bradshaw was a likable goof, Long was almost erudite in his analysis, and Jimmy Johnson is in love with his hair...
nothing changes

Yeah that's it. Veteran's Day.
I do recall as a kid that most professional football players got out of service obligations because of their injuries. They were declared unfit for service....ironic I used to think.
When in doubt, patriotism sells. On the other hand, anything to remind us of those damn wars and the fact that we have good people risking their lives in those wars...well that has to be good.

Yeah, and you could switch over to the NASCAR coverage instead (on ABC), and they glorify the military and have planes fly over as part of the pre-race ritual. This is part of the NASCAR scene every single week.
Sorry about your head -- hope you're feeling better by now.
